I doodle while listening to lectures. I found I cannot take notes.. it's a waste of my time and I miss more than I get.
So now I doodle during lectures and I find I can listen to the teacher and stay active in class discussions.
I've actually had a few folks compliment me on my doodles... probably worried I'm some demented soul and they're afraid to mention how weird these things look!
The thing I enjoy most about my doodles is that fact that you can take most any of them and rotate them to see different things.
I don't have many that are drawn only towards one specific orientation.
I don't like taking notes either but I usually just listen during lectures. I doodle more when I'm stalling on starting homework. I'll have my pencil in my hand but instead of starting my work I'll start drawing things.

This is concept art for two of the characters from an action/adventure/comedy/drama fantasy light novel I'm writing (whew!).
They started in my failed attempt at a webcomic last year, but somewhere in there my host left, I couldn't afford the fees, and it occurred to me that I couldn't draw. I've had a bit of practice since then, though I'd love some pointers if anyone's got the time.

nice pic, I'd say you have the faces nailed, now work on the bodies, like the girl, looks "bony" (skinny, bones). If you are going to put them in a setting, draw it first, so you can get a good sense of the perspective, but that only gets better with practice, so, go practice!

My interpretation of Jimi Hendrix....
It's another somewhat older drawing I made. It's made out of head (?), out of memory, without a picture or something to draw from. It's true. It has to do with me loving something obsessively, (in this case his music and the whole 'aura' around him) and putting a lot of time in the subject. But must say, earlier in life I was better in drawing out of memory.

Most of the works in progress and sketches I have are old and the finished pieces are now well done, but if I ever have any on the way, maybe I'll get to share.
Oldies but funnies and goodies of a pen, pencil and paper nature:
These were done when I was ages 13-15, give or take here and there.
Same with these.
The first part of what will soon be a trilogy of mental drools. It's based on inner mind visions and dreams.
This is the second of that series. The guy in the middle is the same guy as in the comic in the first, and both images came from dreams. He showed up in reality over a year later. If you draw it, they will come, I guess.
This is the result of waiting for the cable guy to show up in one of my old places.
