I just started a dubstep tune, first thing I've done in a while now. Its strictly a work in process right now as I plan to add more complexity, better breakdown, etc.:

5PRYME - Petal Jumper (WIP):

Nevermind - I just pulled it down, but for good reasons this time; what I have right now outclasses the WIP by just about night and day comparison. I'm actually glad to be psyched about the quality of a new tune I'm working on. Haven't felt that in... geez.... at least a year and a half now?

I haven't written anything for the piano for two months now, yesterday I felt like giving it another try.
It's rather short, not even 3 minutes. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.

Pensive melody, I like it a lot. Also good use of pauses.

Since 2002 I've felt that club Techno has become very over-produced, almost like a producer showcase rather than anything focused on club dynamics. I made this track a while ago and I've noticed guys like Marcel Dettmann moving back to a more basic, and relatively under produced and quite analogue sound.
This is just a loop. There's no arrangement.

It sounds good, kinda like you're pushing and Underground Construction type direction. The only thing I think it could do with would be some lo-fi funk staples like oldshool hip hop synth or funk guitar hits, rnb vocal clips, the right kind of brass stabs, etc. - I say that because it sounds like it wants to be more funky than dark; or at least 'dark' in a 93'-94' type way.

BTW Lawrence, I'm listening to some of your other stuff and I like your old shool acid a lot (peeping No Guarantee at the moment). Care if I follow ya?

Lol, I thought if anything it was a spin on 'Lauren Hill'.

Yeah, I'm like 40% through that right now. Its sick, has some good elements that remind me of what a big difference there is between stuff like this vs. all the new club music and even dubstep from certain producers that's trying to sound too much like T Pain and Timbaland just because the clubber kids are too anal to accept anything else.

Another thing: Big props on Intro Thing - great atmosphere.

Thank you very much! :)

THIS is nice. Great work!

I believe this may be the first time I've heard something of yours that really showcases a sense of organic unity. Everything that NEEDS to be here is here. You need to do more like it.

As for what I think you need to improve: I don't get a real sense of motivic or thematic development. Key areas are still really static. While that isn't offensive in this tune, it's not a good idea to compose EVERYTHING the same way. It's tempting once you find something that works to keep composing the same way, but then you end up with several tunes that all seem to sound alike. On a related note, I didn't hear much material that transitioned between contrasting sections--but, then again, not much was needed. The more interesting classical works really take their time making transitions from one theme to the next, or from one key area to another.

The other thing is you had a couple of block chords in the right hand that didn't seem very well prepared, nor were they really all that useful in setting up what happened next. I would generally avoid blocking chords in the right hand with two exceptions: setting up for a left-hand melody, and for accompanying left hand melodies.

I had a bit of weed earlier and this came out. A sort of end of night Electro thing. Needs a bunch of work and mastered.

edit: This also came out.

I like it, particularly Moscow Centre. You should put the two together but with more Moscow and the quiet bits of The Circus

This is something i 'finished' today:
