I love Jon Anderson's voice.

Songs that makes me feel melancholy -

Time and Again by David Coverdale from the Northwinds album.

Stay with me Till Dawn - Judy Tzuke (what a voice!)

7am by The Blue Nile

Anything by Snow Patrol - That guy sounds like he is in constant pain.

I've just been listening to Schoolyard Ghosts by No-Man. It's really beautiful, my only criticism being the slight greasiness/breathiness of the singer's voice.

@ Wedge, I love Yes but can't imagine being moved to tears by them. Interesting how we react to different things, like metalheads being lulled to sleep by death metal :) .

A Long Way From Home, by The Kinks really does it, for me. No other song does that. Not even Imagine, by John Lennon, except for The White Cliffs of Dover, by Vera Lynn.

What song, or songs bring you to tears?

Unbreak My Heart, by Toni Braxton. I heard it on the radio a lot when my husband died. It's a beautiful song I don't listening to.

The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams.
and Abide With Me (Hymn)

Well, not to tears. But almost.

I've never heard a song that's brought me to tears. I don't recall crying since I was a young child. I imagine if one did do that, it would be something like this -

I get a very odd feeling when listening to some of Zappa's music (and the music of other artists, but I've never found any where it happens nearly as much as with Zappa); a mixture of awe, triumph, happiness, melancholy, hope, and more, and it seems as though it's located in my stomach, rather than my head (so I guess it's the kind of thing people refer to when they say 'gut reaction' - it doesn't happen to me very often). It's strange, because one of the main criticisms I hear of Zappa is that despite how technically good his music may be, it's cold, emotionally detached, etc. For me, a large portion of Zappa's music has produced some of the most intense emotional experiences I've had.

This song makes me cry. Why? Because the album it's on was a limited release of 2000 copies, which was promised to be re-released in 2008. It is now 2010, still out of stock and no re-release in sight. And that, my friends, is criminal. :(

And all from Damnation. Great album. Loneliness-essence. I can't believe I missed it in my last post here.

A Silver Mt. Zion - Movie (Never Made)

Let's kill first the banker
With his professional demeanor
Let's televise and broadcast the raping of kings
Let our crowds be fed on tear gas and plate glass
'cause a people united is a wonderful thing

I know that you're dying
And I know I'm unwell
And together we sashay
Through variations of hell

And as you walk through valleys of fear
The lure of my past never near

Oh, don't be afraid, for the parade
Will not pass our way
It's nobler to never get paid,
Than to bank on s**t and dismay

I love Opeth. Hope Leaves, too.
