I'm on Anno Dracula now. It's quite good. It's very like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, or I should say, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is very like it, as Anno Dracula came first by ten years. ^^

Uck, my commiserations, horrible book. Authors who delight in writing characters like that creep me out. :?

It was alright, but very clichéd, heavy on metaphysical meandering, implausible (can't say what without spoiling) and left many things unexplained (ditto). The last probably deliberate for effect and/or for leaving plot hooks for a sequel. *wikis* Ah, I see there is a sequel only ya ne panamayoo that Rooski stuff so'll have to wait.

The author of that book is already a billionaire. He made his fortune from publishing.

It's a very good book, because it's by someone who has actually done it, not by someone who's knocked it out for a quick buck.

3rd time reading through this. BS Johnson combined two of my favorite literary devices (or whatever): metafiction and dark comedy, which is why I keep re-reading his stuff over and over.

It's really hard to find BS Johnson fans anywhere on the internet :(. If only his books' re-release print runs were larger/libraries stocked his stuff more, because I do know people who are interested in his work.

If you're interested in reading this book, just read the Wiki article and see if it appeals to you. Knowing the ending won't necessarily ruin the book for you.

His novels were very experimental. One of his works, Albert Angelo has holes cut into some pages so you can see later plot points that are foreshadowed in certain earlier areas in the book. Another, The Unfortunates, Wikipedia describes as coming in a box, unbound and "with a first and last chapter specified. The other 25 sections are designed to be read in any order in between." Because of how its packaged, i have seen no libraries around me carrying it and its 2008 print run has ceased.
