i do not generally like "rap", but there is one song that is a favorite of mine that is "rap".

i think it is the first introduction of a "rap" song to the world.
i am not sure.
i will look it up soon, but this was released in 1979 when i was 7 years old, and i learned every word and i imagined major piano overlays to the skeletal melody of the song.

this is a very captivating song (that i am about to post), and every "rap" song that came after it i felt was inferior to it.
when i was 7, i believed they were making up the words as they went along.
that added to my bedazzlement of their talent.
anyway, i like this song which is among the first rap songs ever produced.

it is called "rappers delight", and it is performed by the "sugar hill gang"

(i just watched it, and i like to look away from the actual video and just listen to the music because the video is distracting. i liked the song when young with no idea what they looked like, and i find it better to not look at the visuals and just hear the song)

I like mostly old school rap like Run DMC, Sugarhill Gang, and Public Enemy, but I also like 90s and newer rap like Biggie and Eminem. I don't like much new rap, though its good to dance to.

I only like classic rap. My favorite rappers are the Beastie Boys. (And they're Jewish too!)

Ugh, DO NOT get me started on rap! I honestly despise rap with a passion (no offense to those who like it). I hear it ALL THE TIME on my schoolbus and I want it to stop! Especially that one song that I hate with a passion, but I don't know who sings it or what it's called! :x

You get used to it when you're forced to listen to it everyday on the schoolbus.

I like old school (Sugar Hill, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, Run DMC, NWA, Beastie Boys) I also like alternative rap (Danger Mouse, MF Doom, Dangerdoom, Busdriver) Irish hip-hop (Seanchi, House of Pain, Marxman, Scary Eire) chap-hop (rappers who act like posh english gentlemen, just google "Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer") grime (Wiley, early Dizzee- before it all became commercial) and this guy called Master Artisan aka 'The Rap Critic'

as far as mainstream rap goes; I like Eminem but that's about it.

not sure if this is 'rap' or not but i like The Last Poets (late 60s, these guys read poetry over percussion- arguably the first rappers, although reading poetry to a musical accompaniment has existed for thousands of years)

OLD SCHOOL BY A MILE

Public Enemy, NWA, Grandmaster Flash, everything about 80s and 90s Hip Hop was just amazing and blows out anything after 2000.

Don't believe me?

Public Enemy were awesome. I once went to a lecture by the late Gwendolyn Brooks, a Pulitzer Prize winning African American poet, and she talked about rap lyrics. She thought very positively about certain socially/politically minded rap artists at the time (early 90's) especially Chuck D.

Inever got into rap because, by and large, rap culture has glorified both the objectification of women and gross materialism. But I really liked Public Enemy's focus on social justice and community. That stuff I can get behind.

And I like these guys too:

And the German/Turkish German rap/hip hop scene has a lot great artists--definitely worth checking out:

I think Eminem is great, liked him since I was about 13/14 (22 now). Don't listen to many other rappers though
