I have so many bit's and pieces of what could be poems or songs, but all they are is pieces, and I can never find the rest of the puzzle. The only one's I have access to atm are:

As we march
Single file
To the gallows
Another mile

In all our haste
Still we smile
As we march
Another mile

and:

These days I just sit around waiting
Nothing ever happens anymore
Before there would always be something
But what am I living for

I need a muse...

You just have to wait for more to come. These things take awhile. Spending your creatively blank periods studying other literature or art in general is a good idea.

dah! I totally agree. I hate having writers block! >.<
I usually spend the time studying more math and science related things. Or drawing, but that seems to get a bit slow too...

Indeed it does suck, I've had it for about 4 years now :?

Cwhite978's suggestion is definitely a good use of the time when you can't write, think of it as inhaling and exhaling memes :D

Hope you find your muse!

I disagree that things will always come if you wait.

Poetry is one of the hardest forms of writing. It is a total mind bender. It is not a spontaneous thing at all. It requires good memory, in order to juggle all the components.

walking, running, cycling helps for me
then often inspiration pops up, all you need is something to record it, sheet of paper, cell phone, dictaphone, whatever, cause often when i come home, i forgot all about it

I think that is a good idea.

Well here's an idea then. I'll ride my bike up to the library and study up on literature. Best of both worlds? And I always have my cell so, I should have a place to take down ideas and whatnot.
Thanks

Indeed, it is very difficult. But I think it can also be spontaneous.

I don't think things will always come if you wait. I'm not saying one should just sit around and expect moments of genius to come. But if one has exerted a lot of effort trying to write, it isn't a bad thing to lapse into non-creative periods. Such times are inevitable. Art is a struggle, and not even the best could maintain a continuous flow of output all the time.

I've actually found it easier if I make myself continue to write, disregarding thoughts on the quality. Sometimes you just need to keep writing in order to find your muse. An artist friend of mine reminded me once that in order to create something good, you need to create lots of crap :)

So - keep writing. Think of a theme, maybe. Good luck.

I have found a solution ! !!

I'm writing a story about a farmboy in 1930's USA. I started strong, but got stuck. Then I opened the Green Mile by Stephen King. The voices in it are exactly what I was searching for ! !

So here's the simple formula:Identify the tone and voice of what you want to write, then go to the library or online and read something with the exact tone and voice ! !! You'll say "Oy, that's how to get the idea across ! !"

PM me for my home address so you send me cheques in appreciation of you gratitude ......

You could try writing more than one thinig at once. If you get writer's block on one, work on the other, and so forth. It works for me.

I remember reading an interview with Isaac Asimov and he said he had five typewriters with five different stories, and when he got stuck on one, he would simply sit down at another and write on that one. At the time I thought that was pompous, but now I recognize the ideas behind that approach.

I read it in his autobiography. I used to take breaks, however, that only served sometimes to stump me more, as then I kind of 'forgot', you know what I mean. However, switching to another one, kind of refreshes me.

If you're doing something with a rhythm, here's something I've tried; strange, but true.

Machines...especially those that process things (repetitive motion), give you a rhythm, like copiers, printers, staplers, factory matchinery. I just listen, and soon you get an overall beat, and take it from there.

Sometimes songs will even come up this way (something like Depeche modes' 'Stripped', which sounds like a 2 cycle engine to me...;)
