What is something that I absolutely hate possibly more than sports? Wanna take a wild guess? If you read this and think, "this guy must really hate today's music" you guessed it. I am so sick and tired of hearing these annoying pop and hip-hop, rap (whatever it is) music. Not only that, I am so sick of hearing the other kids in my school singing those stupid pop songs! :x SHUT UP!! One song that I simply just cannot stand is that Baby Are You Down-Down or whatever the hell it's called song. Lord knows how many times I've heard the kids in my school singing that song, BUT IT'S GETTING ANNOYING!! :x Uhhhhhhh.... God bless America and all the ships at sea. Also another pop song that I simply cannot stand is that Single Ladies song, you know by Beyonce. Look, I don't have a problem with Beyonce, it's just that her damn Single Ladies song is so annoying that it get's to the point wear you want to rip your own ears off! So please feel free to tell me what you think if hate today's music as much as I do.

I haven't listened to "top 40" for years. I can't listen to the same generic pop love song over and over. It makes me want to scream. What kind of music do you like? I am certainly no expert, but it seems if you want to hear interesting stuff, you have to search for it or connect with other people with similar interests. I worked with a guy years ago who ate, slept and breathed music. He loved everything as long as it was interesting and well executed. It was a bar and he was given control of the CD jukebox and that exposed me to a lot of great bands I never would have heard of otherwise.

Most of the stuff I listen to is either downloaded or from the 80's/90's. As far as the crap played on the radio or available in stores, forget it. They would have to PAY ME to listen to that crap.

I also hate today's music. I can't stand Top 40. I hate the pop music of today. I find that it's very annoying. I like to listen to The Kinks and some other British groups from the 1960s and 1970s. I have a friend and a sister who thrives on today's music. I just feel lucky that I can still find music that's tailored to my unique personal tastes.

Bob Dylan released an album this year, do you hate it too?

How arbitrary is it to just hate everything after a certain cut off date? I'm a big fan of old music but there's some equally amazing music being made today, shame you're all missing out on it.

Personally I hate the overuse of the word hate but you don't see me making threads about it.

That's absolutely true but I wonder if they are specifically referring to top 40 pop. I like a lot of today's music, but it's not on the radio.

I don't like todays music much if you can really call it music. The Rap/Hip Hop that goes aroung is just no good I there are only a very few songs that I like from this era but essentially The main eras for decent music are 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, and a few of the 1990s Most of todays music is just rip offs of 1980s music (cover versions and samples). The people who sing todays crappy pop songs are 'sung' are made up freaks. There is no creativity and talent now;at least in the 1980s there was some original music and in the 1970s there was some really pioneering stuff being made. Today is a sort of musical dark ages but somebody likes it and they would call todays music classics in about 10 to 20 years time as I and others call music from the 1970s and 80s but the only thing good about these decades was the music.

Many bands today suck, but always look up on the rock and trance bands that are popular on Youtube, they are better than any of the 70's, 80's stuff.

I don't really care for a lot of the current "hits" either. Kanye West is a hack, Beyonce has a good voice but chooses to use it for evil. Most modern "rock" bands aren't worthy of the label. The lyrics/singing are whiney and about crap that doesn't matter and the guitar work is shoddy at best.
The worst...the absolute worst...is Lil' Wayne. I like some rap... Snoop is good, some Dr. Dre, Tupac, etc. This a-hole though... And his fans so adament that he is the greatest rapper alive (since he declared himself to be) and I just don't get it. His crap doesn't rhyme at all, it has no rhythm or flow, and he metaphors and analogies aren't clever and don't even make sense most of the time.
I blame MTV. The death of good music originates with them.

The problem with this statement is if you take any of those eras, for instance the 50s, 80s. There was just as much crap on the radio then as there is now. You just happen to remember the good stuff.

Yes, most of the music I listen to ranges from '80s to EARLY 2000s.

While that is a valid point, there does seem to be a difference between now and then. And while there is good music out there right now, it is drowned out by all the crap, and I think there is more crap in the forefront than there was in earlier years.
Forgive my being cliche, but it used to be about the music. =] Now it is all about marketing.

Sorry I should have stated I hate 'most' of todays music, there are some things I like where I can connect with music and it feels real to me. But of course it's all subjective.

All I'm saying is to me personally, Bob Dylan perfected what I like from music and once you've seen the best everything else pails in comparison.

But obviously other people can and do have different views.

Yeah Bob Dylan release an album earlier this year, I loved it. Haven't heard the brand new Christmas album yet but am sure I'll love that too.

So much of todays music seems manufactured and fake to me.

It fluctuates. You would be surprised how much crap that got air time in the 50s. It was all part of this post war, JELL-O™ party, fake, suburban utopia. There wouldn't have had anything to rebel against without it.
