need some input and ideas

well, I have been filled with plentyy of ideas for a more sci-fi-ish story this time. (still working on my fantasy series, but i hit a brick wall with trying to sort out some stuff.)

well as for the ideas I need some input on what I have come up with so far. I havent written it out yet (as in the story), I am still in the brainstorming stages.

Takes place on earth, might extend to the space between earth and the moon, perhaps a space colony (huge ass space station).

time frame? Approx 200 years into the future.

basic idea of the story? genetic modification to humans. (which is a thing that is being done belive it or not) Revolves around societal views of modiefied vs unmodified humans. unmodified humans only number a few million at that point. Plenty of hate crime/terrorism happens between the two groups as well. earth is now covered mostly by city, except for areas which would be hard to build, or are protected. The world government is in the process of passing an anti-unmodified human bill, which in turn will spark a nice conflict for the story to revolve around.


what I realy need though are names for the groups. Naturals vs newtypes is too gundamish though :/

Sounds a bit like GATTACA.

well, started working on the framework some more, and got somewhat of a prologue written out. I would like some people to read it through, maybe offer some suggestions. Its a rough draft of it, I would like to lengthen it somewhat though.

Well, here are some character profiles, for those interested. Im not gonna reveal spoilers or anything, so you dont have to worry bout it. Names can be subject to change however, as well as little details. Also it is in no way a completed character list.

Name: Laguna Kyros
Appearance: dresses casualy (Usually in a button down shirt left open and slacks.) Shoulder length black hair. Body is thin, wiry. Blue eyes.
Personality: Tends to be a snark. Will put on a facade, hiding his true feeling within. Harbors a hate towards the UEF and Modifieds, but he is clinging onto his last string of hope that things will change.
History: Is a natural, Born and raised in the Northeast american ghetto. No 'known' relatives living. His mother crossed 'the line' and was subsequently killed. Has involvement with Zanzibar and his gang.
Special Skills: He knows how to hack credit chips and has generalized thieving abilities. Knows how to fire a gun if need be.
Influences for my idea: Han solo, Neil/Lyle Dylandy

Name: Zanzibar (Ahmed Cahour)
Appearance: I havent decided on an outfit for him yet (will have it decided at the end of a rough draft.) He is a bald, olive skinned man with a large muscular frame. He has one red eye with heavy scarring around it, his other eye is brown.
Personality: He is just a very rough and tumble person
History: Runs a small gang that tends to have its focus on the production of various drugs.
Special skills: Managing people, supply routes, and information.
Influences for my idea: the gang leader in district 9, Barret Wallace.
Quote: “Maybe we can work something out with you after more planning, but for now, my gang and I say whats what here. Don't ever tell me what to do again or else you just might not be able to pay off your next debt.”


Name: Karin Araya
Appearance: on the taller end for women, and a sleek, toned body. Red hair, pale green eyes. Tends to wear stuff that flatters her body a bit.
Personality: Flirty, with a bit of mental instability at times (not gonna say in which way, since it can and will affect stuff. Can be calm and composed though when it is beneficial to her. Manipulative.
History: Not much is known about her past. ( I however do know her past, but as stated, I dont want to spoil stuff
Special skills: Stealth, assassinations (sniping in particular)
Influences for my Idea: Faye Valentine, Nena Trinity.

Name: Milliardo Ryl Liore
General Appearance: Tall, somewhat muscular. Dresses very formally, reminiscent of Renaissance style fashion. Long platinum-blonde hair, pink/red eyes. Has a pale complexion.
Race: Modified, Reborn later on
Gender: Male
Age: 66
Personality: Cruel and calculating, after rebirth he has more then a few screws loose.
Quote: “So what do you think of my gift unto you, you filthy lot of degenerate waste. You think I would have actually lowered myself and call you all Naturals? Your nothing but a bunch of Generics, your all better off dead. Oh, that reminds me, Adieu.”
Influences: Kefka Palazzo (FF6), Dauragon C. Mikado (The Bouncer), Ribbons Almark (Gundam 00)


Name: Enzo Valtieri
General Appearance: Average height, medium build. Although he dresses for business, he has a tendency to have a scruffy, unkempt appearance (think Dr. House). Black hair, green eyes. Lightly tanned. Is known to wear sunglasses from time to time.
Race: Reborn
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Personaity: Plain. He tends to be very matter-or-fact and straight-forward
Influences: Albert Wesker (Resident evil)

You might try flirting with the idea that one basic modification is to make a person infectious so that cells that peel off, like dandruff, can infect and modify other types genetically to become the same type. The modification could be visibly significant to create luminescent eyes or ability to mentally transmit radio waves and have a primitive type of telepathy or lay explosive eggs etc.

@sand - Lets just say there are plenty of surprises. Telepathy is plausible, explosive eggs, not so.

Here are a few for starters

Assault Armors: Mechs that get developed for warfare. Currently only the UEF has possession of these weapons, although some gangs and other groups have been rumored to be developing them in secret. (pretty much think of the mechs from code geass or gundam)

Rebirth: A technology in which the memories and mind are recovered from a deceased individual and implanted into a new body. Those who this very rare procedure has happened to are known as reborn.

Icarus: A space based weapons system meant for use as an orbital particle beam cannon. Very highly destructive.

Cold fusion: The main source of power generation for smaller objects (used for transportation vehicles mostly) Hot fusion however, has a much higher energy output. There are great hot fusion reactors that power the worlds cities (which spread over most of the earths surface)

Space colonies: The inner solar system from venus to the asteroid belt has been in the process of colonization.

Check out Cordwainer Smith, he wrote fantastic stuff along these lines. In his stories, all the menial work in the future is performed by the 'underpeople' who are genetically modified animals.
Everyone is ruled by a group of people called the 'Instrumentalty'.

Your concept is very similar to mine, except that I'm using people with disabilities as the ones who are being the victims.

Latest chapter is a combines PoV from both Laguna and Zanzibar.

As to solve confusions, other than listing the PoV for each chapter, Im also setting a date for each, since some chapters take place around the same time as others.

Current working chapter, lets just say Debut of reverse engineered Assault armors.


Still havent decided on a working name for the novels. This is book one currently. Beggining will be fast paces so that I dont have the effect of droning on (kinda like how some people view fellowship of the ring, I know people who skip it because it is too slow.)


As for new Updates, groups groups groups.... and organizations and such.

UEF: United Earth Federation. The governing body of earth and the space colonies.

Children of Gaia: An anti-modified group. Infamous for their attack upon a Treatment center in 2155. They have since gone underground. There have been rumors surfacing that a new incarnation of the group has formed, and that they have obtained some stolen UEF weapons systems.

Transcendent: A shadow organization of sorts, details are sketchy. Rumored to have been behind stealing UEF technology.

The Hand of Osiris: Zanzibar's gang name, named for the fact that he still follows an old religion forgotten by most.

Azda Research Laboratories: The corporation responsible for the creation of the very first Assault Armor. They also have their hands involved with general weapons and Defense research and manufacturing. UEF is one of their major clients, if not their only.
