Hey guys. Here is a thread for those that like and would like to discuss the various artists of the music of the 50's and 60's.
Posting for fave songs, artists, and what you like about the music from this era.

The Dell-Vikings FTW!! :D :D :D :D :D "Come, Go With Me" is awesome.

Fats Domino is a genius. Also, "In The Still Of The Night" by The Five Satins is great, too.

I can't believe that I forgot them!! That is my fave song by them! The depth and complexities of the harmonies in music back then
is something that I wish music had now. Nowadays it seems that
all music is is that growling like a pissed of dog and not understanding it, or that tumpa thumpa thumpa kill a cop rape a chick muthaf*&(a stuff that people call cRAP...i mean rap. Bill Haley and his Comets, it is all something that lives on!

Despite that common misconception that today's music consists entirely of rap and death metal, there is plenty of other great stuff, including new bands that sound very retro.

I also forgot about 60's music. Aside from mine and everyone's usual 1st choice (The Beatles), The Zombies, Herman's Hermits (seen Peter Noone live a few years ago, he's a genius), The Doors, The Dave Clark Five, Gerry & The Pacemakers ("Ferry Across The Mersey" is kickass), too much good stuff.

And I listed two songs, which one do you mean is your favorite?

Meanwhile, back in the states...

Love the Charms' Hearts of Stone - though the version by the Fontane Sisters is very cool, too, but more of a throwback to the 40s.

Still get a giggle out of hearing Pat Boone schmooze his way through Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally.

I didn't mean to imply that rap and death metal are the only styles out there nowadays, I only meant that those seem to be fairly prevalent amongst people my age today. As for the comment of:
"Meanwhile back in the states...," I was born and raised in a place called Canon City. It is in the state of Colorado. Mayhaps you have heard of Colorado? I apologize for my rudeness, but that comment seemed to warrant such a response. The Doors! Hell yeah! Of course the first song that comes to mind is "Riders on the Storm." I also like Van Morrison, the guy that did (Wimoweh) The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and songs like that. One song that is in a style similar to that that I really enjoy is the a capella version of Billy Joel's "For the Longest Time." "Stagger Lee," "Silhouettes,"
"Maybeline," and some stereotypical songs from that time:
"Return to Sender," "Bossa Nova Baby," "Return to Sender," and "Blue Hawaii."

Wow, I wouldn't know where to begin . . . except here:

There's so much good stuff from that era, I've kind narrowed it down to special interests like promo films, and the birth of garage rock.

A fitting question for this topic: Name the person in my avatar. First person to correctly identify him will be rewarded with a 60's promo video in which he appears.

Who put the bam in the bam she bam she bam?

Who put to the ram in the ram-a-lama-ding-dong?

Who put the dip, in the dip-da-dip-da-dip?

Whoever was that man, Id like to shake his hand.

He made my baby fall in love with me!

The Chiffons are another group I like to listen to. I love the harmonies that the all girl groups managed to pull off back then. Makes me all tingly when I hear them.

My favorite doo-wop song: "Pretty Little Angel Eyes," Curtis Lee
