Its an Italien Art Movie Porn Thing basing loosly on a work of the Marquis de Sade(The Guy founded Sadism), The movie it self portrais the life in one of the last loyal faschist enklaves in Italy when Mussolini was already defeated.

I haven't and I have no intention to. I've seen the film, I almost threw up three times, and had to turn my head away from the screen on more than one occasion. (that almost never happens with me anymore.) The film is probably the most disturbing thing I've ever seen, and I've heard the book is even worse. I don't think I could take anything worse. Apparantly, the book is crap anyway though, just perverse trash written by a very angry man in prison. So, frankly I don't feel I'm missing much.

the movie is called salo.

granted it covers some pretty horrible acts, but the undertones of abuse of power were revelations in their own time

Would this thread be better located in the Adult Issues forum so it can be discussed more freely?

It is Alex's forum; I was just asked to help out here. If the subject of the book is that adult, the question remains to you as the original poster - is this thread better suited for the Adult forum?

I will certainly not be reading it; seeing it referenced in Say You Want a Revolution was quite bad enough.

The Marquis de Sade sounds a really interesting person, I would like to read his biography and the angela carter book about him, he lived such an interesting life. He must have been a very charasmatic person as his wife and lovers seemed quite loyal to him so he must have had some redeaming qualities.

He seemed very much born not of his time and Im sure if he lived now no one would have batted an eyelid at him. I find his philosophy of early nihilism very interesting and so interesting that he was not executed during the french revolution but given a position under the new state, his politics seemed very interesting being radical and left wing (ironic given the salo film), its sad he spent so long in prison and asylums and did not get to write more.

Ive not read his book 120 days of sodom but I shall and I will try and read any other work he has writen aswell, I was dismayed to read that his son burned all his unpublished works :(

here is a link to downloads of his books
