well, thats exagerating abit. Allow me to explain.

I was working on a story idea in which there are underground (as in secrete and illegal) fights using experimental weaponry. One of the biggest reasons its underground is because the inventors do not want their secretes known. Enter the main character, whose perception, curiousity, and analytical skills allows him to figure out much of a machines design through mere observation. This makes him a talented contendor, but also a threat since it wouldn't take much for him to copy everyones designs.

Thinking this through I realized this ability is one native to aspies. Though taken abit to the extreme for "Rule of Cool" it would still have the main character not only be an aspie, but be powerful because of it.

:D Slow processing though, would make him useless at responding with necessary alacrity in the thick of a fight and lack of Empathy would mean he'd have difficulty anticipating what his opponent might do next. Which would indicate he'd be better off back at the lab, designing armor and weapons for other team members. But then there's that whole thing about cooperating with a 'team' to being with. That would make for plenty of amusing curmudgeonly kvetching. :P

Sounds pretty cool aeroz. Actually, sounds a bit like Tony Stark in Ironman. Wonder if he was an aspie? Anyway, I think it's a cool theme. I might explore it a bit myself.

I know I dont process slowly, in fact its fairly fast considering the amount of data I'm analyzing. As for anticipating the enemy, our weakness is understanding the meaning of body language, not difficulty in preceiving it. Aspies are perhaps better suited for combat as we can pick up on subtle movements and understand the physical implications. Such as shifting center of gravity and telegraphed attacks. I practice martial arts and my reaction time is rather quick.

Children, children...we do not process SOCIAL stimuli at anything resembling a normal speed, if we did we'd be as socially adept as everybody else. I don't care how much DATA you can process or how well you do it, when put under pressure, the Aspergian brain bottlenecks and shuts down, like the little spinning icon telling you your computer is busy thinking and unable to input any new requests. Tell yourself whatever makes you happy, you do not process at NT speed. If you were tested for AS, you might remember several of the tests they give you are designed to reveal how rapidly you are able to process and recognize specific TYPES of information while being timed or observed, If you checked out normal, you wouldn't be DXd as an Aspie. 'Practicing' martial arts is all well and good, but that also depends on learned responses. Real street fights don't occur so neatly and predictably against people who aren't really trying to kill you and perfectly willing to do unexpected things like shoot you while you're assuming a fighting stance, or have a partner break a bottle over your head from behind. But that's okay, you just go on thinking you're almost like everybody else. Your next twenty years are going to be very depressing.

did I say I was never in an actual fight? Did I say I've never had my life threatened before? My mind does not shut down, even when someone was trying to kill me and my brother I did just fine. Applying my usual analysis and calculating probablity of what was the best course of action. In actual fights I react as quickly as one might expect. Though I usually do not feel stressed when fighting. Actually I rather enjoy. Granted, possible I am the exception but I dont have such difficulties.

Just to clearify, I was extensively tested, and three seperate specialists confirmed I have asperger's syndrome. I also do not know where you are getting this delayed processing thing from. I have read half a dozen books on aspergers syndrom and none of them make any mention to this.

Although it seems I have some of the social disabilities of Aspergers it never gave me any particular advantage in life accept to be more or less happy fiddling around with lots of stuff nobody else is interested in.
