I did a cover of Jewel's song - who will save your soul. I want you to tell me what you think of it.

Beautiful voice!

Not sure how you were recording it, and maybe this has to do with how you were getting the music to be part of the mix (sounded like a player in the background - far too quiet), but from the sounds of your vocals, if you could figure out a way to get closer to that mic, and really belt it, I bet we'd all be blown away!

Of course, that would probably drown out the music, but you know what?

I wouldn't care! :D

I think that voice would carry on its own! Seriously!

Try playing the music trough headphones, and just singing (I'm dead serious!). Forget about us hearing the music. You'll have the music to keep time, and if you really belt it out, you'll have no problem hearing yourself too.

Ten to one you get great reviews from me, even without the music.

Don't be so afraid of that mic though! Download Audacity (it's free!). It has meters in it that'll help you guage your levels so you don't overdrive your soundboard. Otherwise it won't sound too good. But if you can get that volume up, well....

WATCH OUT! 8)

Keep it up girl! All you can do is get better!

BTW: With Audacity, you can mix the music with your vocals right on your computer, and get better control over how they sound together. Google it! It's free, and SAFE. Millions of musicians use it!

Thanks so much for responding! I am glad you like my voice.

I was using my web cam to record and using a song from you tube for the background music. .

I can't belt because the webcam wouldn't pick it up right. I dont have the money for a proper microphone but i plan to buy one when i have the money.

Thanks for recommending Audacity! i have been trying to remember what audio recorder i had installed on my computer before I had to have windows reinstalled. And for the life of me i couldn't think of what it was called so thanks for mentioning that!

I can really belt out music though. I love singing phantom of the opera. When i am not nervous i can sometimes hit that top note she does. and believe me you have to be belting it out to hit that one!
I have some examples of me singing acapella on you-tube but they aren't done very well. I will have to do some better ones and post the links here.

I'll get to work on that for ya.

No problem! When you do decide to get one, get a Shure SM58. They're about $100 bucks, but trust me, they're worth it, and it'll last you the rest of your life. They aren't the absolute best mics on the market, but they sound good enough to show up on stages all over the world, and they are virtually indestructible.

The only catch is, you can't just plug 'em into the mic inputs you your computer. But you can use a cheap Radio Shack mixer. Plug the mic into that, and the line outs from the mixer into your line in on the computer. It's a cheap amateur way to get started. It's how I got started, with even cheaper mics. Oh. And I didn't have a computer. I used two cassette decks. Gawd it was awrful! :P

Cheap mics are not worth it, trust me, If you really want to sing, start with a GOOD mic.

Hey! I just realized this! See that mic in my avatar? That's the one!

Can you sing really really loud into it without it getting all distorted?
Can it pick up really high notes?
I would be willing to buy that one if it could take the power and range of my voice.

How much is a mixer?

Wow! That is haunting! 8O

Reminds me of some of the old Highlander episodes.

Nice work! :D

Save up a little money, and get a good mic! That web cam hole ain't doin' those pipes justice!

MrXxx to answer your question you asked in the pm. My walls are bear, though I know that causes alot of echoing I cant change it right now. I will be moving sometime this year and I need to keep all my stuff packed away. I made it slightly better by wedging my camera into a curtain so it helps somewhat. But that is the only noise deadening in this room.

But I appreciate the acoustics info.

My dad taught me alot of that stuff cause he used to set up stages for some of the big bands when he was in collage. so I know a little about that. I wouldn't claim to be an expert but I know a little.
