I looked for one, but I could not find one, so I made one. A thread dedicated to the works of H. P. Lovecraft, especially those belonging to the Cthulhu Mythos.

I am new to the Mythos. I had basic knowledge of the Mythos for a while, but I had never tried to read any of the stories until now. I just read Dagon yesterday and right now, I'm reading through "Azathoth" and "Nyarlathotep" as they're quite short. for the past few days, I have been reading "The Call of Cthulhu", The Colour Out Of Space", and "The Whisperer in Darkness".

So, is there anyone besides me who is a fan of the Cthulhu Mythos, or of Lovecraft's work in general?

Boredom. I'll put up some Lovecraft themed videos to kill time.

The only thing I know of Cthulu is from the pc game Call of Cthulu, but I recently listened to a few of HP Lovecraft's stories, which were great, and once I'm done my current audiobook I'm going to listen to The Call of Cthulu.

Being that my dad was an old time sci-fi, horror, fantasy reader, I grew up with the Mythos. Many of my earliest memories were of my dad filling my head with Cthulhu and all the Old Ones (which I'm endeavoring to do with my own daughter today - we got her a Cthulhu plushy, and she refers to her toy octopus' as Cthulhu). In Kindergarten, my teacher expressed concern for me to my parents because I had drawn a picture of Cthulhu - she thought it was a man with several arms. In high school and college, I ate up anything I could find written by the Sage of Providence, including Lovecraft inspired stuff by writers from Robert Bloch to Stephen King. Today, Lovecraft remains one of my favorite all time writers.

I'm a moderate fan. I prefer the fantasy Dream Cycle stories over the Mythos. They're more hopeful.

(on which note, from the same era I strongly recommend Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter and Hope Mirlees' Lud in the Mist to anyone who likes HPL's fantasy)

I've read HPL stories and I have one book. I had a friend who's radiooperator and we sent a message to Cthulhu. I don't know if he got it.

From what I've heard, the works of Lovecraft seems pretty interesting - Haven't read any, though. I don't want to read some translation, and books in English are pretty hard to come by here.

Some of his work is now in public domain.

Two new Cthulhu movies are coming out.

The first is "The Whisperer In Darkness" based on the novella of the same name which deals with an extraterrestrial race in the wilds of Vermont. It was made by the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society like "The Call of Cthulhu" and will be released on dvd in October. I think it will be subtitled in many different languages because "The Call of Cthulhu" featured subtitles in 24 different languages.

The other movie is "Die Farbe", a German independent movie based on "The Colour Out of Space". The novella is about a meteor that crashes onto a farm in 1882. The movie will come with English and German subtitles and is in German. Although the original story took place in Massachusetts, U.S. , I think this one takes place instead in Germany.

Aw okay, who summoned Cthulhu? He landed in the guest bathroom and now my bathtub is slimy, non-Euclidean, and terribly insecure about its existence and sanity.
I've read the H.P. Lovecraft books and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (cowritten by Neil Gaiman and some other guy I forgot  but anyway Digon, Hastur, and Ligur and in Good Omens)

Read this! It's a short story by Neil Gaiman about Cthulhu called I Cthulhu, or What's A Tentacle-Faced Thing Like Me Doing In A Sunken City Like This (Latitude 47° 9' S, Longitude 126° 43' W)?
