For some reason, metal seems to be an outlet for me when I get frustrated, and I really like the more technical and melodic genres of metal out there. Of course, good ol fashioned thrash is also good, like Testament

Anyone else here kneel before the altar of metal? And, if you do, what are your favorite bands?

I was playing all sorts of different music to my little 4yr old son the other day to try and work out what he likes, I think he likes Slayer Certainly he ran about with lots of energy flapping his arms and jumping around!

You can call me a metal-head. My favorite band is Metallica even though I like all kinds of music.

über metal fan here.. Its definitely my favorite genre as nothing else can be as cathartic to me when I'm frustrated or depressed.

Symphony X FTW. Paradise Lost and Serpent's Kiss are the bomb.

I thought I was the only AS metalhead. It's good for emotional catharsis when I'm feeling depressed.

I like a wide range of metal, including: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Dream Theater, Opeth, Symphony X, Mastodon, and many others.

Ayreon, Becoming the Archetype, Blind Guardian, Cynic, Demon Hunter, Dream Theater, Extol, Killswitch Engage, Opeth, Orphaned Land, Symphony X, Thrice...those are some of the metal bands I like.

I was actually just listening to Victim of Changes (Judas Priest)! I like a lot of different types of music, but metal especially. Iron Maiden is easily my favorite band of all time, and Hallowed Be Thy Name is my favorite song of theirs.

Ronnie James Dio is easily my favorite singer (today is actually the two-month anniversary of his passing); his voice was absolutely incredible, and he was an incredible person as well.

I am, but I'm more into the melodic/power metal side of metal than the traditional vomit vocals metal.

Mostly sonata arctica, kamelot, and a couple of others.

Me too, I find it really helps when I'm having a frustrating day.

Some of my favs include: Metallica, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Disturbed (are they classed as metal? I don't care, they sound good to me) and Pantera.

I'm pretty big into metal (and classical, go figure).

I listen to a lot of symphonic and/or power metal. DragonForce, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Kamelot, Galneryus, Heavenly, etc. I also like some folk/viking/pirate metal like Ensiferum, Wintersun, Korpiklaani, and others in that vein.
