A Rock and A Hard Place - Anne Sutcliffe

I just looked through this book and as someone with an ASD I am honestly insulted...but not surprised. This reads like it was written by a member of Autism Speaks. Apparently there are several books out there written by parents of children with Autism that seem to victimize themselves while villainizing their children for having autism in the process. The book is written without much of a plot except we explore the life of this woman who's way too apologetic for her daughter and talks about how her life is falling apart because of her daughter's ways.

And I hate the narration. It's so annoying and unprofessional like it was written by a teenager.

Just look at it yourself and share your thoughts. Maybe it's just me. I'm was doing research on a novel I'm writing on autism and it's mortifying how many novels are out there that seems to portray autism like this. I'm starting to understand the anti-cures on here as a result.

I just skimmed the begging of that book & I got the impression that it's not a book about autism; It's a book about the struggles of a parent who is completely overwhelmed with an autistic kid. I found it kind of harsh but I think other parents of autistics mite could relate to that feeling of being completely overwhelmed. My mom was extremely overwhelmed with me cuz I had lots of melt-downs & she would threaten to send me to military school or juvi, put me up for adoption or kick me out of the house a lot. I used to blame her a lot but now I think that she was overwhelmed & was doing the best she could. The mom who wrote that book mite of been doing her best & was extremely stressed out by everything
