These days, I seem to be listening to a lot of foreign music, particularly Japanese music such as Gackt (his music in particular is my current obsession! :D ). Whenever I show it to others though, they tend to dislike it because they can't understand the lyrics, although for me lyrics aren't as important as the voice itself and the music. Does anyone else here like music that is in a different language to their own? :)

I sure do. Most of the music I listen to has English lyrics. But I understand those. (Most of the time.)

Then I have a thing for Italian progressive music. Although I can read a little Italian, I don't listen to Italian prog for the lyrics. It is the beatiful music that grabs me. And some of the singing is as good as any other instrument.

I'm into Japanese music my self. I have found my self liking this Japanese Pop singer Koda Kumi. I also really into all the Final Fantasy series music which is mostly made by people in Japan.

yeah, me too. I usually am attracted to a song by the way it sounds, before the words make anysense to me. Its only after listening over and over that I get the words. There are many songs that I like that are not in English. Like Pizzicato Five has some cool music.

SOmething weird, that is sort of related, the other day I was taking a shower and listening to the radio, a song came on and ofcourse i could hear the music but the words did not sound normal. I thought "wow, they have this song in a different language and they are playing it on the radio, cool!" after about a minute I noticed that i was wrong, it was in english! It was like my listenign aparatus that turns sounds into words was off. LOL

I actually hadn't had that happen to me as yet but when you listen to the same song in Japanese and in English you kind of get the best of both worlds. I think Japanese singers singing balads is really great.

I first got into Foreign language music when I was kid. My stepfather grew up in India and his parents bought me some Indian Film soundtracks.

I also lstened to a LOT of really obscure foreign Punk music back in the 80's and still listen to it occaisonally.

Some of my favorite Japanese bands are Zeni Geva (Experimental Death Metal), Boredoms ( Like what would happen if Captain Beefheart and The Residents got into a horrific auto accident with each other, and instead of trying to sue each other in court, decided to form a band instead.) Boris (70's style Sludge Metal) and Ruins, who are hard to categorise)

I LOVE foreign music. I listen to everything from Sasagawa Miwa to hide to Orange Range to Porno Graffitti to Janne da Arc in Japanese (though I'm particularly into Miyavi's stuff at the moment), a good bit of Korean and Chinese music (I particularly like Chinese children's choirs, and Korean R&B), some French and Spanish pop (like Kyo, Alizée, Christian Castro), German rock, and some Arabic music (Ofra Haza, etc.).

I think I love it so much because languages are one of my interests, and I've always had a knack for imitating sounds, so I can sing along to the songs I like whether they're in English or not. This annoys most of the people I know in person, and I can pretty much never listen to the music I like in public without people actually getting angry at me for it. :/

If anyone has any recommendations, though, I'd love to hear them. I'm always looking for interesting new things to listen to.

I like some foreign music. I like Celtic music, Indie music, and African music as well. However, those are my favorite vocal music in other lands, but I love Asian instrumental music as well.

Does anybody here like Amadou & Mariam? Malian blind husband/wife duo that sing in at least 3 different languages (mostly French or some west african language but a little English too). Super catchy. Most of the other foreign bands I listen too sing in English. Except Sigur Ros and maybe a few others.

Heh, I listened to Gackt for a while, but I couldn't find his best song... I'm still searching for it. I listen to a bit of German music, particularly Rammstein and Eisbrecher. I've also developed a liking for the tracks from Ghost in the Shell, and they're in japanese.
