Well... Here it is at long last!! ! This is exciting for me because I was able to get so many musicians to work on it.

8) :!:
as i was listening to your composition, i thought i heard some neat microtonality from some kind of synth. that was a neat effect if i heard right.
you really ought to be making money doing this.

I don't do it for the money... But MAN it would be nice!! ! Thanks!

There wasn't any INTENTIONAL microtonality. I really love the Synclavier FM synth, which was what you were hearing. One particular sound I use is spectrally really thin and heavily chorused (detuned), which gives that really harsh microtonal effect. The other part was just alternating two notes and slowly pitch-bending it downward. I probably SHOULD use microtonality in a deliberate way, but I just haven't gotten to it yet. Another pseudo-microtonal effect I like is having violins bow behind the bridge. I only wish I'd had real violins instead of sampled, but budget constraints only allow us to do so much!

What I'd really like to do is a kind of Trans-Siberian Orchestra thing and do a tour of various churches that have orchestras. I could get the music to them several months in advance so all we'd need is 3 hours of rehearsal time (assuming we had an hour's worth of music) prior to the performance. Alas, I can always dream...

I'm about to start composing yet another piece. I prefer to do my OWN synth programming--no presets, please--and I'm still in that phase but will hopefully start cranking more stuff out by the first of the year. We're already being asked to play again SOON, so it's just a matter of time before we're at "concert" level. Even better if I can recruit a full handbell choir!! !
