Seen this yet? It's a new book by a guy named Kamran Nazeer. He tracked down four classmates from a school for autistic kids to find out what they were up to. Sounds like an interesting read, and here's a twist: the author is autistic himself, and happens to be a UK policy adviser.

I've been called an idiot many times, I consider it an insult.

I find that term quite pejorative too. Which makes me think that a) he just didn't think or b) he's quite a hateful little shite.

This is interesting.
I just started reading Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot" which is apparently about a very saintly but naive character. Here is a quote.

Quote:
Inventors and geniuses have almost always been looked on as no better than fools at the beginning of their career, and very frequently at the end of it also."

Quote:
I understood from the way that he talked that anyone who chose could deceive him, and that he would forgive anyone afterwards who had deceived him, and that was why I grew to love him.

- A person of subnormal intelligence

- In medicine and psychology, an idiot is a person with a very severe mental retardation or a very low IQ level. Idiots were defined as people whose IQ were below 20 (with a standard deviation of 16). In the current classification, these people are now said to have profound mental retardation. The word is no longer used as a scientific term.

- A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive. [Heritage]

This word is definitely an insult however you use it :!:

Autistic kids aren't idiots. I hope that my IQ isn't below 20! (lol)
