So which decade do you think has the best music?

I probably like 90s music the best.

Depends on the genre we're talking about really, or what context. Best decade for originality? Best decade of leopard print leather pants and giant perms?

Being slightly provoctaive, I'd probably vote for the 1780s :o

Much of Mozart's greatest music written then, including The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi Fan Tutte (which I recently saw in a fantastic "hip-hopera" version proving it's timeless nature and appeal to all kinds of people who might previously have thought it wasn't for them). Some good stuff from Haydn too.

For sheer impact and the start of an explosion of styles, 1910-1920 would be hard to beat.

I've also a huge soft spot for the 1960s, having played in a band tributing some of the classic albums of that decade.

A general thumbs-down from me to the 1980s I'm afraid (with some glorious exceptions of course).

The 60's! Hendrix, Dylan, Joplin and so many more made it an awesome decade for music.

Music from the '60s, '80s, and '90s have always seemed to captivate me the most.

Whatever decade you went through puberty and adolesence in is the best decade.
Its like a law of physics- whatever was current when you were a teen thats the kind of music you like best. It doesnt even have much to do with whether that period of your life was happy or not- even if you have no nostalgia for your teen years your musical taste is still set in concrete as whatever was popular in your teens.

cant really pinpoint a specific decade but i think the best music came from 1984-1986 and 1992-early 2002.

I disagree. i turned 13 in 2000 and 18 in 2005, but to me most of the music after early 2002 really sucked. I think some of the best secular music came out between 1992-2002 with a focus on the 1994-1998 era. Nowadays i listen almost exclusively to Christian music. I wasnt into that while is was in puberty.

I recall Usher was big during the first half of the 00's, but i cannot stand him...
