I like fanfiction on fanfiction.net but I have a hard time finding any that are good. I usually look for good crossovers but I can't seem to find any, I am thinking about writing my own but I don't like to read things that are of my matirial. I also am terrible at spelling and grammar and I don't think I can write any fanfiction.

Also what do you like about fanfiction? What is your apperant favorite thing about them?
my favorite thing about them is when one character from our world get sucked into another world or is the character is from some other world gets sucked into ours. The only thing I would like to read fanfiction about that is to see all the references they make about our world. That is the reason why I like to read about that.

For better quality, try searching on livejournal.com or http://archiveofourown.org/ - ff.net is generally considered to be an entirely useless place because of the lack of good fics.

Some fanfic tends to be nothing more than the morbid sexual fantasies of whoever wrote it. I don't care for it much.

I used to read a lot of fanfiction when I was a student. I didn't have access to much anime material, so it was nice to have a way (even if unofficial) to see my favourite characters experience new adventures. I was (and actually still am) very strict though on what I would read: legible (reasonably good spelling and sentence construction), the story actually fits the characters, the characters react as I would expect in the original work, and no porn. Turns out there's still quite a lot of quality around.

I write myself something akin to fanfiction, although it's more an homage, since I didn't borrow characters but general ideas and atmosphere from my favourite anime. It's on my blog if anyone's interested.

I've never read fanfiction for any other reason than curiosity, and I hope it's not offensive to say that I find it a bit creepy. In particular I mean 'bandfics' and stories featuring real people. It's different I guess if it's using characters who are already fictional, but reading stories about actual people who you do not know engaging in awkward and most likely out of character behaviour (such as falling in love with band members or fans) to satisfy the fantasies of fangirls is just weird to me. Above all I think I'm just extremely picky about what I read. I don't like the writing style used in most popular, published novels, let alone fanfics, so it was unlikely to ever be my thing.

I read it for a laugh from time to time.

depends on the author. Some are better than others, some are Godawful (in fact, there's a Godawful Fan fiction site out there, or used to be). Some of it has the fascination of slowing down to look at a car wreck...;)

I make up a lot of fanfics in my head, but I never write them down. This stems from when I was a young teen. I posted a couple of fanfics on Fanfiction.net, but they generated little interest and got bad reviews. Even though a lot of people tell me that I have a natural talent for writing and should use it more often, I'm too scared of getting bad reviews again to put it to good use. I'm too sensitive when it comes to criticism. It makes me cry even when the other person is trying to be constructive about it. I admit it's a flaw and I wish I could become emotionally tougher.
