Does anyone notice that so, so many, in fact a huge percentage of songs use the same chords?. And there is probably a lot more, since this video was only made in 2009.

Agree or disagree, I think it's true.

you can have much more variation with the chords than you can with the same exact drumming rhythm I hear everywhere, so really it doesn't bother me at all. The Drum track that you hear everywhere does though.

Plus chords CAN be played more than one way as well, introducing bends, trills, legato techniques and whatnot. So it really isn't a problem at all.

Popular is familiar and simple. Nothing new under the sun.

Most jazz standards have the same progressions too, but the harmonic and rhythmic embellishments add interest.

There's only 12 notes.

12 notes and combinations thereof, at all different octaves. The real problem is the bands are all just copying the same chord "progressions" it isn't the chord, but the same "CHAIN" of them.

A lot of songs use the chords A minor, F major, C major, G major in that order over and over again, sometimes it starts on C instead of A. I find it boring I like songs with ever changing chords but some people must like the familiarity of it I guess and maybe that it's not so taxing on their brain to listen to. Successful self proclaimed "artists" these days are just abusing people's lack of musical knowledge, lack of culture and lack of demand for an intellectual aspect to music or at least the desire for some original notation and chord structure.

I love that Axis of Awesome video.

Although if you actually listen to the songs, most don't sound like that. But it's still funny.

I've noticed this before, that particular progression is very, very popular. Another song in that progression is "Soul to Squeeze" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There are a few others I cannot think of at the moment. Its pretty amusing that they meshed all those songs together, my jam buddy and I often do the same thing (with some different songs) to amuse our friends when they watch us jam
