Musicians - playing with others

If you are a musician or performing artist who collaborates - ie works with others in the creation of art, I would like to hear from you. I am an Aspie (technically residual) and studying the effects of Aspie traits (including among NT folks) on collaborations in music and sonic art. This includes bands, studio recording practice, composing for theatre or film, sound design for games etc. At this stage I am just seeking expressions of interest and anecdotal data, but may ask for participation in on-line forum and other research tools at a later date. I can be emailed or private message via this forum.

I play a variety of instruments: flugelhorn, trumpet, electric bass, sitar, tabla and some keyboards--none of them all that well, but primarily for enjoyment. As a band geek, I performed in the brass section of stage-band, symphony and marching band at school (I found marching and playing at the same time difficult and spent more time in the stands). I enjoy jamming with a small group of friends and I would like to spend more time in drum circles.

My taste in music runs from Cab Calloway to Miles Davis to Beatles to Pink Floyd to REM to Spoon to Flaming Lips to Sia Furlor to Sonya Kitchell to lots of stuff in between.

Well, I sing in a professional choir, if that counts as a muscian collaborating. I am not sure exactly what you want to know, but I will help you if I can.

I played bass in 3 bands (1-pop; 2-rock; 3-blues) in club and festival.

Right now I'm working my acoustic compo to start a project this fall with a femal singer.

It would be like (Tori Amos vs Tea Party vs Smashing Pumpkins vs Portishead ...)

When I was teenager, I played Metal and thrash on guitar.

I've played keyboards and guitars in a few short-lived bands, and sung in a few choirs.

From my POV so far, the secret to a successful band seems to be finding dependable bassists and drummers. Mainly drummers, because many guitarists are at least competent on bass.

(The drummer shortage also explains why my best band experience was the Saturday night jam with four people and a drum machine. That one lasted three or four years, but never actually played "out" anywhere. But we did have fun.)

well if onbly lived a bit clloser to you id be your drummer lol.


oh and Winnipeg i only ever heard about froma story i read in amagazine, about a british family who went there purely because they liked the name of the place and apparently every1 in winnipewg was very nice to them and held parties and stuff for them... wow.. lol

Piano (not like I used to...I never liked playing it)
Singing (I'm a soprano)
Banjo (it's so easy...anyone could do it. But it sounds awful...no such thing as a pretty banjo song)
