I don't want to start any pissing contests. No "she can't act" or "he's washed up". Nada. I'll just cut to the chase: I have a habit of "casting" actors as my characters to get a picture of what they look like nailed down on the board. Let us begin:

For my paranoid psychological sci-fi action comedy-drama noir crime thriller Redesigning Eva...

Eva Elliot
Molly Ringwald(http://images.fanpop.com/images/image_u ... 70_500.jpg)
Carey Mulligan (http://screencrave.frsucrave.netdna-cdn ... 9-10-5.jpg)
Klaus Krieger
Mac Culkin (http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0em ... x/340x.jpg)
Willem Dafoe (http://www.flix66.com/wp-content/upload ... n-LA-3.jpg)
Val Kilmer (http://www.blogcdn.com/news.bigdownload ... july32.jpg)
Matthew Goode (http://www.drivenmag.com/wp-content/upl ... tgoode.jpg)
Brian Hicks
Anthony Michael Hall (http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lkpa8 ... o1_500.jpg)
Michael Cera (http://www.hecklerspray.com/wp-content/ ... l-cera.jpg)
Maybe Mac Culkin again.
James Holden
Pierce Brosnan (http://images.contactmusic.com/newsimag ... 138109.jpg)
Michael Caine (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VYzcc1tthw4/T ... +Caine.jpg)
Brian Cox (http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/arc ... 75238a.jpg)
Bob Hoskins (http://www.moviewatchlist.com/cast_gall ... skins%20(4).jpg)
Ray Winstone (http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/chest ... 476663.jpg)
Natasha Grant
Lea Thompson (http://www.frey-united.com/lea-thompson ... son-45.jpg)
Rachel Leigh Cook (http://images.tvrage.com/people_galleri ... /89705.jpg)
Ally Sheedy (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?. ... d=34591948)
The Observer aka "Trish"
Rinko Kikuchi (http://www.asianfashion.com/blog/wp-con ... /babel.jpg)
The Cigar Man- William Fichtner. Paul Gleason if it were made in the eighties. Heck, Cigar even dresses like Dick Vernon!
The voice of Cope- Sigourney Weaver or Molly Ringwald.
Captain Cruthers- William Petersen as an anthropomorhic, humanoid bent tiger cop.
Johnny- Lou Taylor Pucci in an unbilled minor role.

Directors...

Michael Mann (Heat, Manhunter)
William Friedkin (The French Connection, To Live and Die in L.A.)
David Lynch (Mulholland Dr., Blue Velvet)
David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club)
Paul Verhoeven (RoboCop, Basic Instinct)
Alfred Hitchcock would've been sweet.
Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs)
Brian De Palma (Carrie)
Martin Scorcese (Taxi Driver, Shutter Island)

My current story-in-progress (which unfortunately has only one chapter written and even then it needs to be seriously revised) is based on Egyptian mythology, specifically the story about Osiris and Set, but is set in prehistoric Sudan around 6500 BC, so practically all the characters are African. I'll just name the four most important characters here:

Aset (the protagonist): Oluchi Onweagba (admittedly a model rather than an actress, but I can't think of too many prominent dark-skinned black actresses since sadly Hollywood prefers the lighter-skinned ones, so I'll just go with the celebrity that looks most like my character)
Nebthet (her sister): Atong Arjok (sorry, another model rather than an actress)
Sutekh (the antagonist): Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
Maja (chieftain of a tribe whom Aset and Nebthet seek out so they can raise an army against Sutekh): Mr. T

As for the director...I honestly can't name a particular director who I think would be good, but he/she has to be someone who can do action very well.

I don't really have a set of actors and actresses that would fit my characters all that well, as I try not to get set on any particular talent to play them, in case I ever do get around to making one of my stories into a movie.

But, for the people that look most like the main characters in my post-cyberpunk novel-in-progress, Post Black, here you go:

Damien Rutherford
Katherine "Kath" Gerrard
Paul Kishka
Jessica "Jess" Kishka
Chad "Itch" Henderson

While I don't have an "original" story, I have seriously considered which actors/actresses would be best suited to playing characters I have made up for the massive "crossover" fanfiction world going on in my head (which, I feel I must warn you, features many children born of slash pairings):

Hattie Hightopp-Wonka (daughter of Willy Wonka and Tarrant Hightopp/Mad Hatter): Lily Cole
Wilma Hightopp-Wonka (Hattie's older sister): Annasophia Robb (which is funny when you consider that the actress played Violet Beauregard in the same movie that this Willy Wonka came from)

Colbie-Jo Lister-Rimmer (daughter of... do I really have to say it?): Naomie Harris

Ophelia Todd (daughter of Sweeney Todd and Edward Scissorhands): Fairuza Balk
Annabelle Todd (Ophelia's younger sister): Christina Ricci

Bentley (son of the 10th Doctor and the 11th Doctor): Andrew Lee-Potts
Cooper (Bentley's younger brother): Freddie Highmore

Sometimes i think about that, but i can't find an actor that may look similar to my characters. For hairstyle there is no problem because actors can always wear wigs, but i can't find facial features and body types that are OK for my characters.
Probably, more than famous actors i may choose normal people without all standard of perfection and beauty actors must have.

The Blindfold
Stanton O'Claire: an unknown. One that is capable of acting subtley and with a great deal of skill but also capable of breaking down realistically. Maybe Jake Gyllenhal. I'm not sure.
Stella O'Claire: Brit Marling. Her presence is mostly in the form of voices in Stan's head. She died during the influenza outbreak in 1918, so she appears physically only in flashbacks or as hallucinations.
Jed: The deceased son who dies at the age of 6. He also died under the same circumstances as his mother, just a bit later on(a month). I don't know of any specific child actors to play him.
David Marcel-Stan's childhood friend. He is killed by Germans in World War 1. He haunts Stan like the other people. Charlie Cox.

And for my fursona Doctor/Professor Keon Clark Forrester(as a scaly/furry, I do have one. ), I wouldn't be able to cast anyone. It's because he's a caricature of myself. He's just a smarter and more unhinged me who looks like a raptor and has a bit of a drinking problem(I don't drink and I don't intend to) and can't ever hold a job. The only other people that might be able to portray him is Sam Rockwell or Johnny Depp(and he's in too many movies)

James McAvoy but I don't have a character for him to play.

I prefer working with local amateur talent that can memorize lines, hit their marks on cue, improvise when necessary, and make it look natural.
