Honestly, why do they? I feel like this is a double standard - but when it was Rock music, it seemed fitting, considering that particular genre is supposed to be rebellious and raw, but with the modern stuff on the radio, it just sucks.

Over-sexualized people create over-sexualized music. After all, music is a form of self-expression.

Every era of music (or anything) has its flaws; some just possess more than others. Yet again, it's all subjective.

Not to be harsh, but all Rock isn't "supposed" to be rebellious, by the way. Or raw.
What do you know, maybe today's music is "supposed" to be both. Unless you wrote or produced the music, you can't really decipher the original intention merely by listening to it on the radio.

Sex sells and people like sex?

I don't see what's wrong with it. It's just a form of self expression.

I dunno, I can't imagine people getting into Kenny G or other soft things that intensely.

Sex sells. Musicians want money, even if they claim they're 'all about the music', because they have to eat like everyone else. End of story

This is a topic I found recently discussed in another of the forums I frequent and makes for an interesting read...

Rhythm.

Actually, on second thoughts, that's the answer to "why do sex and music have a lot in common", whereas the answer to the original question is "people do not oversexualise music, because music cannot be oversexualised."

As far as I know, simply because sexy music/videos sell.

I despise the idea of people turning an emotional and soulful art into some sex act to get money and attention. But I can't control what the masses like.

People have forgotten how to listen, so we need to give "music" an interesting visual element to sell it.

This isn't strictly a modern phonemena. Sex has been a part of artistic culture for all of human history. Just go look at some Greco-Roman artwork and read some of Shakespeare's works and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Good point. There is also a lot of phallic architecture in many of the world's cultures
