Not sure where to post a topic about ballet,as it incorporates music and performance. Does anyone else love ballet? I studied it for fourteen years, never quite making the professional level as I was told on the auditions I went to.But I still love it,am reading a fantastic book on the history of ballet right now called Apollo's Angels.
Who are your favorite dancers? Mine are Mikhail Baryshnikov,he's amazing and very charismatic in person; Ulyana Lopatkina,Evgenia Obratsova,Suzanne Farrell,Leslie Caron,Rudolf Nureyev,Natalia Makarova among others.

I love watching it...

unfortunately my balancing skills are a bit weak so I could not get very far when I tried learning ballet

Evgenia Obratsova is very light, charming and feminine, shorter but still full of vitality.

Suzanne Farrell was blessed with a perfect musical ear,and this leant an incredibly sensitive and emotional edge to her dancing. She is the one ballerina I wish I had been able to see perform fourty years ago ! not possible of course..

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of ballet, per se, but I do like watching dance performances. It's like music for the eyes, if that makes any sense. I was disappointed a couple of years ago when I missed a chance to see a live performance of "Giselle." However, I did get to see a newly-restored version of The Red Shoes in a theater last year, which was great.

I don't recall specific details, but I remember being intrigued by some things I'd read about Nijinksy's life. I may have to dig that info up and re-read it.
