I don't know if I might of said what one of many of my obessions are but right now and has been for years that I'm obessed with Final Fantasy series music, wallpapers, screensavers, desktop themes the works. The two things I download most often from the web is Final Fantasy series music, and Final Fantasy series music videos. Why do I find my self downloading these and enjoying them? What's in the music do I enjoy? Why do I find my self having my laptop on my bed playing Final Fantasy music or other theme song music at night? Why do I hate silence so much? Could anyone answer these questions?

The reason why you like the music from the Final Fantasy series is because it is so damn good. Many songs on my iPod are from Final Fantasy 3 on SNES. Listening to video game music takes me back to a time when life was simpler and all I did was stay up and play games. I also listen to techno.

Yeah all Final Fantasy music is great. To bad that the composer left Square Enix.

Some game music's pretty decent. Probably my favorite's from "American McGee's Alice"--especailly the song that plays at the very beginning of the opening cutscene. I also like some of the Silent Hill music, like "Angel of Room," and the "Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire" soundtrack, as well as the music from the "Vampire: The Masquerade" games, "Mafia" (the orchestral stuff, not the jazzy swing that plays in the city), "Silver," some others....

I can relate to liking video game music; I usually prefer it to other forms of music. For some reason, I find myself drawn more background music than songs that require active listening; when playing a game, the midi sets the mood, but doesn't break your concentration.

My favorite game midi comes from the 16 bit era of video games; Mega Man X, Final Fantasy 4 and 6, Donkey Kong Country, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and Yoshi's Island all had great music. They may not have been as elaborate as the orchestrated stuff modern consoles pump out, but they fit the mood of the games better. Of course, when it comes to video gaming, I'm an old fart who prefers good old fashioned side-scrollers to these newfangled 3D contraptions, so what do I know, eh? 8)

Nah, I definitely get it. Especially seeing that your a big Final Fantasy fan - I've played VII and IX a lot, they definitely go for the mood. For me I'm definitely more about mood and beatz than I am the lyrics, especially when they get some good subliminals in there. One of the reasons why I love Can't Get Enough by Mobb Deep is it's got this subliminal pad in the background that almost reminds me of part of that overland music from Final Fantasy VII (though Hell on Earth came out in 1996, I don't know about FFVII), that kind of mental/visual pairing with Prodigy & Havok lyrics, another subliminal melody in the bassline when you turn it up and all kinds of vinyl snap-crackle-pop, all that does lots for me.

Talking strictly though about videogame music though, I remember back when I used to play original Nintendo - the original Batman game had some really good music to it, especially the 2nd and 4th levels. Bionic Commando and Ninja Gaiden kinda sorta did the same for me and as I remember Ocarana of Time was another one where it wasn't only just flat out a great game but it had some really good emotional/visual mood pairings with what you were hearing.

Video game music is awesome, but there's more to it than just Squaresoft you know. I have the following soundtracks:

Chrono Trigger
Doom (American music is cool too, right?)
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VI Piano Collections
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Kingdom Hearts
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Koji Kondo is a genius. And play Majora's Mask damn it, that game doesn't get enough love!)
Mega Man Legends
Mega Man Legends 2
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
Rockman 2: The Power Fighters
Rockman X1~6 Capcom Music Generation (Five and a half hours of music on five discs, hell yes!)
The Secret of Mana
Super Mario 64 (Another great Koji Kondo soundtrack)
Super Mario RPG

Best game soundtrack ever. Chrono Trigger is a close second.

You have FF3 music? I've got a single cd FF4 music. I've got every Final Fantasy music from FF4 to FFX-2. You can find the music to download at www.ocremix.com. I've got Final Fantasy 7 to X-2 wallpapers, screensavers, and Desktop themes. I've got now a Final Fantasy 8 Squall's necklace and ring. I'm a little obessive?
