for me there's actually a lot, but the most of my faves is I Can't See New York by Tori Amos. i adore the song, it's divine though a little saddening. they recorded it with the perfect amount of ambience!
so...what's yours?

This was recorded in one take.

If you have good speakers, you can hear the tube amps humming as Stevie's soul bleeds out...

Many songs by Earth, Wind & Fire. Some that come to mind are "After the Love is Gone", "Fantasy", "Get Away". They don't make music like that anymore. Where has the "Spirit of Radio" gone. Rush, another group that could take your mind to other places, and envoke thought at the same time. And finally, "Animals" the whole album by Pink Floyd.

After the seventies and the move away from acoustic sounds, we lost some of that spirit; replaced by technology.

MP3 players. It's amazing, but you have no idea what you missed out on with the move to digital compressed media. Eight tracks sounded better than todays MP3 players. But, without acoustic instruments, nuance is lost.

Enigma...think the song was 'Mea Culpa'...anything by the Cocteau Twins is ethereal...and unintelligible...;)

I remember Julee Cruise' music from David Lynch's Blue Velvet. Very keeping with the quieter scenes in the movie.

Glad to see that Cocteau Twins have been mentioned. They are simply amazing. Elisabeth Fraser's voice is so heavenly.
One of my favourites of theirs:
