I find non english music oddly soothing. I listen to c-ute, yoko ishida, Hi Hi and even T.A.t.u (and no not because they were lesbians) Even anime songs I love to hear. I am trying to listen to more but anytime I look for a new band I get hard rock/medal/yelling. What non english bands do you like/think I would like?

Listen to anime radio stations and you will find amazing artists. For some reason jpop female singers are awesome but most english speaking female singers suck.

I *adore* Japanese music. Here are some of my favorites:
Akiko Shikata is a singer and composer who makes some of the most achingly beautiful music you will ever hear.
OOIOO is an all-woman avant-garde band.
Ketchup Mania is a female-fronted pop-punk band. This is an awesome music video with a Scott Pilgrim-meets-Roy-Lichtenstein vibe.
The Beat Crusaders are best known for doing the opening to Bleach, but they've also done other stuff.
If you like Gothic Lolita fashion, the Dresden Dolls, or Emilie Autumn, you'll love Kokusyoku Sumire. They can best be described as operatic cabaret.
If you like noise rock or punk, you absolutely must listen to Melt-Banana.
Kiiiiiii is a performance art duo. Their music is made with children's toys.
Midori was an amazing jazz-punk band.

I can't stand J-pop. Especially the female singers.

But for nonenglish, I listen to African folk music and certain Icelandic bands an awful lot.

If Japanese music is interesting, you might look for albums by the artist "Iruka". I *think* she still performs today but the style of the music is folksy and a bit from-the-past (think 1970s).

Some more dancey stuff set to electronic beats, look up "DJ Cheb I. Sabbah" (particularly the album "La Kahena") and "Azam Ali" (sings in Persian, occasionally Urdu, and English).

Shiina Ringo is a good Japanese singer. She is also in a band called Tokyo Jihen.

I love K-pop (Korean pop music). Especially Girls' Generation. I also like Latin music, (like reggaeton.)

Well one of my favorite bands is Einsturzende Neubauten. They're very experimental but many of their songs have a great industrial sound. They have a wide variety in their percussion sounds ranging from PVC pipes, to metal tubes, to gas cans, to old tires and metal scrap.

Folder 5 is a great J-Pop group, as is SAWA. But yeah, if you want to listen to J-Pop, find an anime radio station.

I do not want just OST. A lot of J rock comes close to metal.
