In this world the people who are most successfull and most highly regarded are not the people with strength of character, independence, or ambition, but the people who can most effectively play the victim.

"As you all know it has been two weeks in my recovery after accidentally inhaling the second hand smoke of an unknown passerby."

"How have you been coping?"

"Well I am sorry to say I have had a major setback, just the other day I was walking to my bathroom when I inadvertantly stubbed my toe."

"Oh how devastating!"

"Indeed. I experienced the pain of a thousand needles bearing down on the flesh with every step. As a result I have been bedridden the last four days."

"How did you ever make it back to your bedside?"

"Ahh! Even the memory of such a story gives me much pain."

"Oh I am so sorry! How can I ever make it up to you?"

"Money for starters, A hundred dollars seems fair."

"That seems more than fair."

Quick! Somebody call the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAmbulance! We have a PTSD here! He's gone CRITICAL!! !

It is not so important that a person actually is a victim, but that others believe that the person is a victim.

Good point, though it's a hard thing to do, make it believable.

What's amazing is, as pathetic as this seems, I believe a society can operate like this - entirely on guilt.

So do I.

The most frightening dystopic scenarios are the ones that are the most believable.

This is both frightening and absurd enough to be plausible...since we may be moving towards such a society already. 8O
