I've noticed myself spontaneously coming up with melodies--especially in the evening as I'm closing up shop. I think maybe it helps me relax and maintain focus. I'll just start humming something. Most of the time it sounds like a classical piece, but sometimes it's more like a pop song. It's very stream-of-consciousness. I'm not musically trained, so it's not like I can go home and commit these tunes to written form or even playing them on an instrument.

Is this just another weird AS thing? Is it possible I've had a musical gift my whole life and not even known it?

Anyone else have something like this??

I do that sometimes. Not often enough to call it a talent. But I do surprise myself with the quality of my spontaneous compositions once in a while.

I haven't heard that it's commonplace for AS.

Are you thinking of starting an All-Aspie Impromptu Chorus?

Weird stuff like that happens to me if I'm really tired. I found that I'm actually better at certain things whenever I'm tired.

It happened to me a couple of times. Haven't been able to since. I was on the verge of sleep so I got to thinking it was due to alpha waves or something and then I wanted to take biofeedback to see if I couldn't trigger it.

That reminds me, I made a way cool song in a dream but then I forgot it. I just know it was good, though.

I would just be humming, and I start making up my own little songs. I forget them right after though and I have no musical talent at all. so it may be a AS thing.

yes they do. i hear rhythmic undertones to the general sounds i hear in real life.

a simple example may be when i am on a train. i hear the consistent rhythm of the "click...click....clickety clack" and my mind always sets up a bass line and melody to fit.

i always think of spontaneous tunes that would perfectly fit the rhythm (in my opinion), and after i get off the train, i still think about the song i was mentally performing, and eventually i play it on the keyboard. sometimes i record it, but mostly i do not.

when i walk for a long distance , i am aware of the rhythm of my gait, and my mental musical performance will be based upon the rhythm of my gait.

i often have some sort of musical flavor in my thoughts.

Yes. As a composer I find this very useful.

I generally have 2-3 lines pop into my head and a vague idea of a scene in which they would be spoken in a story or poem. Melodies do come sometimes, but I'm not musically inclined enough to do much with them.

If I'm having difficulty falling asleep and my mind is racing usually I spontaneously come up with riffs in my head.. never recall any though
