Designers: any simple tips for unique halloween getups?
I tried to work in the words elaborate, efficient and DIY and it didn't work (character limit) but that's actually the big gamut of the situation at hand; something pretty exciting or demanding of a special halloween get together, even if to the costume wearer it's nothing special. To me this year i wanted it to be exciting; I thought Lady Gaga was totally screaming me but hey, every one else was gonna be a Gaga poser right? hell yeah.
but my other thought was to be a call girl ghost from the Victorian era wearing a tattered long gown. that was about it until another girl at my intern program said i should be the Madonna from her very first album, with the lace gloves, sexy rebel bride with the combat boots, EVERYTHING... and sure dude. so long as i could network someone to find a costume store like ummmh, there's one everywhere Starbucks is, uh huh.
sooooo, just for proof that other people are having trouble trying to be the perfect halloween standout--because they want to--or maybe just one of those costumes or that you just might be in the mood to up the standards on a costumes that some people have been able to pull off but not everyone--i want a costumer's (or if not that, someone who knows costuming well or knows fellow costumers or is a cosplayer obsessive) example, tips, secrets, whatever, on a particular few costumes that are hard to recreate and give links, vids, whatever you have to say on how it just might be possible.
But if you can only put out what you think is DIY-able if at all without paying an arm and a leg and/or having to sew stuff together from one piece to the next entirely, on the bridal rebel Madonna, i'm perfectly well off with it, and would appreciate any response.

Well the year of the anthrax scare, my friend dressed herself as anthrax...she got a white dress and put baby powder all over it and hot glued envolopes to the dress.
so what I am saying is you could grab something from the headlines....rightnow the biggest scare is the budget and the economy
so you could dress up as the budget shutdown. thats scary, but in a different way.
All you need is 2 big peices of poster board, red white and blue ribbon, paint, and an old suit you can tear up from salvation army, a fake white beard, and an uncle sam hat
first you paint the boards paint it some color that will stand out against black lettering.
then write on it item by item, the major issues in the budget...then draw a line with a ruler under them, then on the far left side write insufient funds on each item.
then on the back do like a report card and grade congress on their performance, conduct, etc etc put F nexr to each item.
Then tie the boards to gether with enough room to sandwich you between them. Tie at both sides of the neck and both sides of the hips using the red, white and blue ribbon
then you can get the uncle sam hat, suit and beard ready.
This is asuming as we americans do...that you are in the US. If you are in the UK, you can dress yourself as a rioter or something symbolic of headlines in your country...that would different.
Or you can be the 5th person there dressed like lady Gaga and dont really care.
