Jo and possibly Amy might be bloggers, sharing their stories and art respectively.

I think Beth (and a few chapters from the beginning Amy) would be home-schooled.

Any ideas on how the other characters would be like if they live in modern times?

Mr. March would be a chaplain in the Army stationed in Afgahnistan. Mrs. March would work at a nonprofit that helps the needy. Hannah would be played by a Mexican maid.

Because of their desperate poverty, Meg would work at a nursery school instead of going to college. We would see Amy's struggles in high school as she tries to be popular with the rich kids. Beth, as you said, would be homeschooled because of her obvious autism or social anxiety or whatever.

The basic structure of the story would still work--grandson of rich neighbor moves in next door, hijinks ensue. Jo could donate her hair to Locks of Love instead of selling it, and perhaps her rich Aunt would pay for her to go to college. She could still end up in the city and meet an older European intellectual who would win her heart after she turns Laurie down.
