They're okay. Kind of overrated, in my opinion.

Sorry to be the party pooper here, but...I tried liking LC. I really did. But then I realized that I really, really didn't--especially after hearing Nightwish, which is very similar, except the vocals are so much better. I can't stand it when the guy sings in LC, and when the girl sings I can't understand what she's singing. For example, in the song "When A Dead Man Walks," she's like, "weeehademadeeee, weeehademadeeee..." If I hadn't known that the song was titled "When A Dead Man Walks" I wouldn't have even been able to wager a guess about what she'd been saying. LC, then, for me is just a seriously overrated and overpopular wannabe NightWish. It's to metal what the "Halo" games are to gaming. But then, there's a lot of music I just don't "get."

I found Lacuna Coil last week, a little bit by myself, I hadn't heard talk about them before, if I like LC it's because I loved what I heard for the first time last week.

You said they're overpopular, maybe, but it's not that who let me know that group.

It happened for a lots of bands, I discovered them 3 or 4 years after everybody can't listen to them anymore ...

its nice...

but too thin and flat. and the guy cant really sing, and the girl has an empty voice, no feeling in it.

i prefere something like early tristania.

and lacuna coil is A older then nightwish and B nothing like nightwish. nightwish is symphonic power metal with operatic vocals, lacuna coil is soft gothic metal with fragile vocals. nothing alike

Nightwish is widely considered to be gothic, and most of their songs are actually pretty soft. While Nightwish's vocals are indeed more operatic, they both are gothic metal bands with both a male and female singer (but with more emphesis on the female singer). The guitar style is also very similar--it is also the guitar style found in the band HIM. The general mood tends to be similar, I think, as well. So I think they're very alike. Not exactly the same, no, but definately alike.

I didn't know LC was older than NW though--thanks for telling me that. I've just been hearing about them constantly on message boards in the past year all of a sudden.

hmmmm:/....actually im not really sure theyr older....i really think so, but im not sure about how old lacuna coil is...
but i really think older then nightwish...

but yeah, generally nightwish is considered gothic metal, but in fact theyr not. they are very much dressed up as gothic metal (musically), with the moderate tempo and the beauty and the beast vocal style. and i think some songs do incorperate the sound somewhat. but they, in fact, are power metal. symphonic power metal.
though the line between those two genres can be quite blurry. genres often get mistaken in such a fashion, with children of bodom being classed as melodic death (also power metal)
and i havent really heard much nightwish i must say.

also i prefere the male singer of lacuna coil to that of nightwish. he has the most horrible growl ever.
