As the title says, post versions of songs you prefer to the original artists' versions, unless you feel that nothing can truly beat an original. I beg to differ for a select few, though :) I'll just post one at the moment.

The Tears For Fears version of this comes very close, but I guess with this it depends on what mood you're in :)

There are so many covers I like out there but for some reason I just keep drawing a blank and these two are the only songs I can think of :\

I swear in god I was going to post that video when I first saw this thread's title but you beat me up to it dammit. Tears for Fears is a great band but Gary Jules just made this song sooo much better. Good thread Simon, let me proceed if you may:

Love Potion Number 9:

Cover by the Searchers:

Original by the Clovers:

The Clovers did not know at that time that playing rocknroll WITHOUT guitars is... not so good. They did the song with piano/sax all acoustic instruments but it sounds just terrible IMO.

------

Got My Mind Set On You:

Cover by George Harrison:

Original by James Ray

Totally diffrenet. Both are cool in their own ways but I like George's more.

---

Edit: And by far my most favorite:

Puttin' on the Ritz:

Cover by Taco:

Original by Fred Astaire (I think it was the original, perhaps there was an even earlier version but the most known is Fred's)

DAAS' cover is my favourite (think I posted this somewhere else recently, I was really taken by it, no apologies for posting it again :) ):

Being a rabid werewolf fan, I've several versions of this song of Michael Hurley's. They're all excellent, but this cover is on balance my favourite for its simplicity.

And I have to go all Shelby on ya:

I second or third or whateverth the Mad World cover.

This was one of the first songs I ever downloaded back when it took 5 - 10 minutes per mp3.

First heard this at the end of life on mars and it still blows me away every time I hear it.
