I saw this purple violin on Amazon. It makes me regret not having taken music lessons back in high school. :(
I'm not sure if us Aspie's have a history of bad violin-playing or not to pursue it.
Music notes remind me of Japanese. I think I could get the hang of it, maybe..
I've heard of people who starting playing musical instruments since they were children.. and they're still not professionally good at it.

Meh.. >_< I reeeallly.. need a hobby of some kind that doesn't involve bowling, walking around in circles, college, and this computer.

Violin? That's hard! I won't try to discourage you but.... I think you'd need an instructor.

You could teach yourself to play a piano much easier than a violin. Of course I'm a bit biased toward the piano. ;)

Yeah I kinda thought so. >_<
*sigh*
Just one of those things I will have to wait to try until I get a place of my own as well as my own money.

you could take a few lessons to learn how to hold it and what the strings and basic positions are and take it from ther on your own for a while. ask about vibrato. pizacotto is when you pluck the strings instead of bowing them.

you need a good ear to tune the violin and to judge your finger position. if you have good pitch, you'll do fine.

i took lessons for years, but never got great at it because i have low manual dexterity. the violin helped me with that.

You think you would be able to find these sort of things on Youtube for demos.

It's been almost a year since I started violin lessons. It's hard, but worth the effort to at least have an instructor show you the correct ways to hold the bow and violin, how to string and tune the violin, how to produce a note, and the proper care of the instrument.

The rest is practice, practice, practice...

I will also buy a violin and learn it autodidactically this year.
As far as I know, the only thing that's really necessary to have a chance without a teacher is a brilliant ear.
I have no doubt that it will work out for me. The beginning might suck though.
