When I say bad I'm not talking about extremely unpopular types of music; I'm talking about extremely bad music quality. The kind of stuff a band would record when they are just starting out before they could ever get a record deal; the quality you would expect at a Jr high talent show; stuff that's like the videos on YouTube with a guy singing a woman's song trying to do the high pitched voice & sounds worse than nails on a chalkboard. Sound quality like this

I'm not a huge fan but I like em for a bit at times. I think fans of The Gothsicles would fall into this category too. What's really odd is that I don't like black/death metal because I think it sounds like grunting to static

I love listening to demos, live sessions and such like - but when people say 'demo quality' as an insult I take offence. I think that a lot of times artists know what they want and already bring themselves into the song in its first stages, the vision of the producer will not nessicarily enhance what the artist needs to convey even if the 'quality' of the recorded version might be better.

One of the bands who makes music that sounds like it's been destroyed is merzbow.

Yes this is me too. I do like some 'proper' music, such as classical but I also listen to a lot of embarrassingly awful music. I like Eurodance, Happy Hardcore, Gabber (Dutch Happy Hardcore) and all sort of other ridiculousness. I had been with my partner for nearly 4 years before I let him look at my MP3 collection, because I am so ashamed!

the portsmith sinfonia was an orchestra with an unusual entrance requirement- one had to be either a non-musician or a musician playing an unfamiliar instrument, to join. brian eno was a one-time member, [mis]playing a clarinet. :lmao:

All those folkway recordings the smithsonian did are demo quality and the most beautiful things in the world. If a piece of music requires thousands of dollars to make it sound good maybe it was not good in the first place.

I once purchased an album by William Shatner.

I listen to it once in a while, actually. It's great stuff.

Speaking of music that is really bad, I once had some grindcore on my iPod - primarily a band with a name that I dare not recite here (this is a family website, after all). Then I grew up, and I put those childish things away.
