So I plan to find Aspies where I live that can play musical instruments and make a band to help Asperger's Awareness. Of course I already came up with a name for it, Those Damn Aspies :D I thought it would be a funny name. Do you guys think this is a cool idea?

I wish I could join such a project, but I'll always be too far from anyone who posts here. I also have delusions that I could learn to play guitar, even though I haven't tried to play it even once.

I live in Dallas and I play bass for a few bands but I have yet to come across another aspie musician. It would be awesome to see a band of aspies.

More power to you!

Please plan how you'll treat your employees decently and straightforwardly and use some of the profits for good things. Yes, anything artistic can take a while and has luck factors and external factors, but all the same, one just never knows. So, take some chances, see how it works out. Dare to Dream. :D

Good luck in your search! But two questions:

1. What instrumentalists (drummer, bassist, keyboards, etc.) will you need for the project?

2. Where will you be looking for them? For example: I live in Edmonton, so it's going to be...kinda hard...to make it to Los Angeles for an audition.

Hey man! I live in the cosmos too! Right around the corner. Can I join?

Seriously though, unless you are hypervigilant about NOT posting where you are, changing your location to your real location might help you get some responses from WP from nearby.

Proceed with caution of course. Oh, and since you are 14, and I am a parent, I strongly encourage you to check with your parents before doing so.

Who knows? If you turn out to be close, you may hear from me!

One of my bands is 2/3's aspie. Me and the bassist/vocalist. The guitarist is NT.

I had the illusion that I could play guitar too. I then realized the guitar was not easy.
I think that learning bass is probably easier. I understand why you want to learn the guitar because I do too.

An aspie band sounds great but get a good songwriter. Many people believe the stereotype that aspies are apathetic and feel no emotions at all. If there was an aspie band with passionate and sensitive lyrics then the stereotype would seem less probable to the ignorant masses. I could write very emotional lyrics but I have no musical talent so my dream of being a musician will never come true.

Well it's too bad that a bunch of Aspies couldn't network or something over skype and make some music together. I have played piano for 25 years.

I actually thought of trying to form an all Aspie band once, I live in Indianapolis IN. I am a pretty good on the guitar. I posted my aspie band ad on craigslist about a year ago, and sadly got smart elic replies from people who just don't understand or thought it was a joke. good luck on your search though :) best wishes!!

If I had recording equipment I'd gladly do something like that.

you could always record single tracks and email them to each other, and concentrate on mixing/releasing songs rather than performing. the old school way to do that was with tapes that you mailed back and forth!

also if I was in an AS themed band it would most definitely have the word "Assburgers" in it. but then it would probably have to be a punk band by default.

Perhaps if you are wanting to have the band physically get together, this site might work for initial work, but figuring out what instrumentalists there will be may be more based on what is available. A group doesn't need to stick to the standard mixes of instruments to pull things off. (Who would have thought of combining Guitar, Bagpipes, and Drums in a band?)
