It's pretty sad, because once in a while I hear the most epic stuff. In fact, after the Oscars were over earlier this year (yes I know, I'm an awards show geek) I decided I have to get opinions from all of you about whether the song Monster should've won for being off the Transformers soundtrack. It is definitely epic and very deserving. Sorry, couldn't get the video link, but it goes awesome with the track, in case you want to get a feel for it on youtube, but anyways.

There's been a few over the years. "Streets of Philadelphia" by Springsteen comes to mind. Most of time, though, the typical Oscar nominated track is by something by Alan Menken, Randy Edelman or something with a symphonic background. The songs have to be written specifically for a movie, but most of the time, those that do get nominated are usually in films which have also received tons of nominations. "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion from Titanic probably would've been neglected had the film not been nominated for 11 Academy awards.
