I've been listening to the same four Eminem songs over and over and over and over again. I just put this list on loop and total probably each song 14 times per day.
I looked for some other songs like them but I'm not interested in pure vulgarity, it needs to have some actual content, but I don't know how to find this.

Any suggestions?

May I suggest Mozart's last four symphonies with a side of vichyssoise and Australian shiraz?

Jurassic 5
Del the Funkee Homosapien/Pretty much anything by Hieroglyphics
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
A Tribe Called Quest
Outkast, their older stuff anyway.

Of course, the oldschool stuff. Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, etc. I used to listen to rap a lot more, but I pretty much stopped. Now I listen to girly eurodance all day. But these are a few songs I remember off the top of my head. If you like gangsta rap, Tupac was always my favorite for gangsta rap, but I hate gangsta rap now, much too negative of a music style.

As far as R&B goes, I LOVE R&B, but I pretty much only listen to older R&B. Pretty much the only newer R&B I've heard and liked is Maxwell and Sade. The best R&B era for me was the 80s. LOTS of R&B I can post.

"Oh Sheila" is like my favorite song ever. Well not quite, but it's up there. I've had this on repeat for like a day before, it's great.

This is Japanese jazz fusion, but it's funky as all hell. Toshiki Kadomatsu. Jazz fusion is a wonderful genre to look into, super funky. Another jazz fusion artist I like is Shakatak.

Sade's been around since the late 80s I believe, but they're one group that's actually improved with age. It's slower music, though.

I can post a LOT more stuff, so PM me if you wish for more music. I can even upload some for you if you want.

In general I find that a lot of the older stuff has more content...nowadays its almost all sex, drugs, and violence.

Grandmaster Flash - The Message (one of my favorites!)
Bone Thugs N Harmony - Crossroads
Common - The Light
Run DMC - It's like that
Ghostface Killah - Motherless Child
Dr. Dre/Eminem - Guilty Conscience

Today I learned Sade is a band, not just a singer. 8O
Well, it's still the name of the lead singer, but pretty much turns my world around. I love 'Sweetest Taboo'.

Am not sure if I can suggest any good hiphop or r&b... There've been some good suggestions above. I'd suggest 2Pac and Nas (his early stuff, before Nastradamus). I second Common and Lupe Fiasco. On a more commercial note, I would suggest you listen to 'Supa Dupa Fly' and 'Da Real World' albums by Missy Elliott, and 'When Disaster Strikes' by Busta Rhymes.

As for R&B, I cannot stress enough that you must avoid the 80s as much as you can.
I've recently been listening to: 'Westside' by TQ, 'Didn't Ya?' by City High, some songs by Chante Moore, Montell Jordan, Lucy Pearl...

Meh. Everyone knows that the only one who mattered in that era, was Keith Sweat. Almost single-handedly saved the genre:

Him, and that Bobby Brown kid from New Edition. Carried us kicking and screaming into the New Jack Swing days.

Wyclef Jean (formerly of the Fugees)is notorious for actually having content to his raps (what a concept!)- speaking about the world situation, and about the immigrant experience, the sudden change in the NYC skyline after 9-11, and much else.

I recomend the album "Carnaval II" ( never listened to carnaval I- its probably good as well).

Hi, have you checked my thread? http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt202296.html Those songs have alot of meaning to them, and the bass is plentiful. If you want others like this, there are thousands of Tupac remixes made for every song. Some songs only work with the original soundtrack, other songs only work with remixes. Then in between there are hundreds of stupid remix beats, it's all a matter of perseverance.

There's more Scarface tracks that are absolutely awesome but as always i learned that there are some that are superb, and some that are just not my style, don't make the mistake of listening to one Scarface or Tupac track and instantly decide it's bad or something.. There's thousands of flavors

Peer Pressure from Mobb Deep is a example, i don't like any of Mobb Deep's song but Peer Pressure is godly
