Folk music is the one genre that is most likely to make me cry. I love music that has a deep connection to a land or people. This is especially true for music from Britain or Ireland, but also from other countries, even if I personally have no link to that land.

Good ol' Bergendy Ensemble from 1973, the year I was born, funky-beat-jazz, sung in Hungarian.
(excuse the singer for the prominent "a" sound :), listen to the saxophone unison instead)
------------

Whether I’ll ever see you again?

In black cloud the Moon has hidden,
Will we ever meet somewhere again?
The sky dresses in black duds,
Who knows, darling, if I’ll ever see you again?

Dark night, nobody sees,
As two friends are saying goodbye.
The sky dresses in black duds,
Who knows, darling, if I’ll ever see you again?

Whether I’ll ever see you again? (ref.)

Dark night, nobody sees,
How small we are, and how big the world is.
The sky dresses in black duds,
Who knows, darling, if I’ll ever see you again?

Whether I’ll ever see you again? (ref.)
------------

Vajon, valamikor látlak-e még?

Fekete felhőbe bújt el a hold,
Vajon találkozunk-e még valahol?
Fekete gúnyát ölt fel az ég,
Ki tudja kedvesem, valamikor látlak-e még?

Sötét éjszaka senki sem látja,
Hogy búcsúzik épp két jó barát.
Fekete gúnyát ölt fel az ég,
Ki tudja kedvesem, valamikor látlak-e még?

Vajon, valamikor látlak-e még? (Ism.)

Sötét éjszaka senki sem látja,
Mily kicsik vagyunk, s milyen nagy a világ.
Fekete gúnyát ölt fel az ég,
Ki tudja kedvesem, valamikor látlak-e még?

Vajon, valamikor látlak-e még? (Ism, többször)

Sure, I've lost someone. Thank you for the posts, great songs. Let me put here a short list about other more or less melancholic songs that make me sad or cry:

- Mano Negra 'Out Of Time Man' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCIhi0kj3SE
- Its cover is also great and unique by Le Maximum Kouette http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5-x79EeSYQ
- If you like them, here is an own song: 'ça me dirait bien' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=333_BblOY40
- Reggae classic Bob Marley and The Wailers 'Fussing And Fighting' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN1JoJcR ... re=related

Me too! I really love Basque music. This song makes me sad sometimes:

Quote:
Walking on the green fields
in a corner of the ocean
I love the mountain tops
and the smell of the salt water.

In all the salt water
of the ocean's corner
I wash my soul
full of dreams.

Throughout the Basque Country
in all the mountains
I find myself at home,
in mother's arms.

Laying on the ground
looking up
I realize
that I love you

I've done this type of thread before, but people here wrote different songs for each band, so I thought I'd take on the challenge.

Manic Street Preachers - This Is Yesterday, No Surface All Feeling
Echo & The Bunnymen - Rust, Avalanche
Morrissey/The Smiths - The Death Of A Disco Dancer
Pulp - Disco 2000 (Just because it's perfect :P )
U2 - One, I'm just a big sucker for it
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris, Aqua - Barbie Girl - I'm just a sucker for them even though they're pop songs.

IDK, 'and more' ;)

Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
Lacuna Coil - Enjoy the Silence (Still love the Depeche Mode original)
Opeth - Isolation Years
Fear Factory - Timelessness
"Corynorhinus" - Hans Zimmer (Batman Begins Soundtrack)
"Brooks Was Here" - Thomas Newman (Shawshank Redemption Soundtrack)
