Last week, Vh1 played a countdown of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 80's. Want to know what was no. 1?
I'll give you a hint. Here are the lyrics:
Once upon a time not so long ago:
Tommy used to work on the docks
union's been on strike

He's down on his luck - It's tough
so tough.
Gina works the diner all day
working for her man

She brings home her pay for love
for love.

She says: We've got to hold on to what we've got
'Cause it doesn't make a difference if we make it or not.
We've got each other and that's a lot for love -
We'll give it a shot.

We're half way there - Livin' on a prayer

Take my hand and we'll make it
I swear - livin' on a prayer.

Tommy got his six string in hock.
Now he's holding in what he used to make it talk -
So tough
it's tough.
Gina dreams of running away
when she cries in the night
Tommy whispers: Baby
it's okay
someday.

We've got to hold on to what we've got . . .
We're half way there - Livin' on a prayer
. . .

We've got to hold on ready or not

You live for the fight when it's all that you've got.

We're half way there - Livin' on a prayer
. . .
We're half way there - Livin' on a prayer
. . .
We're half way there - Livin' on a prayer
. . .
Yep, "Living On a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. Good choice, VH1

I would have voted for Blue Monday, by New Order.

Love it... especially if Phoebe Cates is nearby.

What about "I Ran (So Far Away)" by A Flock of Seagulls?

"Kinky Sex Makes The World Go Around" by the Dead Kennedys

Followed with a tie of either "Death Valley 69" by Sonic Youth with Lydia Lunch or "Reoccurring Dreams" by Husker Du.

What about Every breath you take by The Police, or any other Police song.

I was actually watching this last night. Then I had to rush to my computer to download some of them. :)

Hehe.

My favorite band, Depeche Mode, was on that list, but it was for that lame "Just Can't Get Enough" song...
Of course, take Depeche Mode outside of that particular song (or 1981, even), and they don't get anything but respect. It ****ed me off that they picked THAT song and not another one.

I'm happier that ABC broke the top 50.

Dun, dun, dun du-du-du-du-du-du-du-dun, dun, dun, dun...

That song's brilliant, the original mix is the best one.

I am a fan of most 80s music, and I wasn't even born in that decade. :)
