I am a little vexed by this concept. I have heard savant art, but not autistic art, per se. Do you guys think there really is such a marked distinction in art? Why isn't art just . . . art? And what would categorize art as Autistic? Just been wondering about this for a few now. Especially since art can't have a disorder! If I named it something it would be art produced by autistic artists, not autistic art, anyways.

Yep it's a thing. It's just art made by autistic people or art that portrays things related to autism.

It isn't just any art by an autistic person, it's a specific scene or genre. It's meant to portray the idea of autism, express autism.

er... I actually had never heard of this... so I had to of course google it... "Autistic art: Art by disabled artists has long been shown in separate venues from artists without disabilities.[1] and the art of those with autism has often been considered part of Outsider Art[1] The works of some autistic artists have featured in art publications, documentaries and been exhibited in mainstream galleries."

I sculpt... so that means I am an Autistic Artist?... Here I always just considered myself an artist....

I'm a member of AspieAuty on deviantart which is a community for autistic artists:

I guess I wonder if there are marked differences between art done by neurotipicals and autistics, or individuals with very diverse ways of seeing the world. Does our art reflect our neurological differences in some way, or are we classified that way as artists just because we happen to have such a difference?

I think it's more how the art is being presented than the fact that it's done by an autistic artist. If it's presented as autistic art, it's autistic art, otherwise it is just art.

I think autistic art is more focuses on artistic savants than just your average artist on the spectrum.

I think that is pretty accurate.
