This thread discusses a world not only I, but also people I know, created.

This place is basically earth, except that humans never appeared, and instead 3 nations rose: The industrious and highly scientifically advanced ants & wasps, the war-like, somewhat technological mosquitoes & rats, and the peaceful(& primitive) crickets & mice. The main thing is, however, that everyone is at war, except for the last faction, who only try to survive. The hoards of mosquito & rat invaders storm the cricket island, burning, destroying, bloody rage in their mind. The ants are no better, trying equally to destroy the same hoards.

Also, both the ants & the mosquitoes use communism, but that isn't important.

What to say?

Could you throw in some meerkats?

And maybe an evil overlord like in a bugs life.

I think this world is just too dark for those things. Anyway, the world is close to the level of miserableness that is of Warhammer 40k. Yes, I said it. It really sucks to be an individual in this world. For one, the both the mosquito faction and Ant faction are made of stalinistic, war-like, somewhat-technologically advanced creatures. The cricket faction, while it seems the safest, is also the one that gets attacked the most.

One thing I forgot to mention: Ants have underground caves were they keep subversions of enemy species called the swamp. In there, it is dark, moist, and filled with more subversive creatures such as giagantic blind catfish & the such. Imagine that place. If your scared or feel uncomfortable with that, don't worry: it's normal.

And...right behind you.

Oh yah, I also forgot to mention: Both the ants and mosquitoes have their own sort of evil leader, while the crickets are just primitive little things that only care about art and crap that does not even have the slightest effect on the great mosquito & rat hoard armed with weapons varying from javelins and swords to nonelectric, mechanical machine guns & cyonide gas.

I do not own Terra Insectum. I only have control of the rat and mosquito army.

Its funny you later mentioned Warhammer because I was about to say it sounded like it would make an awesome tabletop game! I bet they would have cool miniatures if privateer press made them!

Actually, I think it would make a good RTS.

A bit about rat armor:

It's a two-layer protective body suit that only doesn't cover the ears. They wear under this armor another body suit made of rubber. The first layer of the armor is chain-mail, and the second is leather. The rubber suit has glass lenses, and the armor has two slits wide enough to see through over the eyes. He has a scuba tank attached to the back with tubes leading to the armor and body suit.

The Heavy version is the same thing, only steel plate replaces leather(at least, everywhere but the joints.)

Now imagine being a cricket and seeing on of the rat heavies carrying a double-bladed two handed battleaxe.

Yes, it's completely, utterly terrifying. And the rat soldiers are trained to climb and run with their armor on. Now what are they like?

More things:

Rats have a few types of guns. Here they are:

S.I.L.M.G: Shown above.
Sniper rifles: These weapons look like a Dragnov with a ten-round magazine and a stock made of metal.
Pistol: looks like the child of a Desert Eagle and Mauser c/96 with a fifteen round magazine.
Rocket Launcher: Is basically a single-shot gun that fires an explosive payload that is triggered by a metal spike at the end.
Shotgun: A double-barreled version of the rifle with out the scope.
Flamethrowers: They basically release natural gas, which comes into contact with a torch's flame(this is gotten by igniting an oil-soaked cloth around a metal rod that is positioned in front of where the gas comes out.) They have the gas container attached to the device.

They also have:

Spike grenades: similar to the ammo of a rocket launcher
Gas containers: These are glass jars that carry chloride or cyanide gas
Smoke bombs: similar to a gas container, albeit with smoke instead of poison
Auto-cannons: These are just much larger versions of the pistol
Melee Weapons: They have Axes and War-hammers, plus punching spikes.
Shields: Rat shields are one centimeter thick, are made of steel, and have a length of two inches and a height of 4 inches.

A note: since these are rat devices, they have the proportions and scale as such.

Another list of things in the rat armory:

Incendiary Bombs: basically a Molotov Cocktail.
Bayonet:This is usually added to the weapons as to make fighting easier.
Lamp: Self-explanatory.

Another Note: The Rat Army has more than six billion soldiers in it. If they have not been intimidating enough with obviously high strength and their array of weapons, this shall surely make them scary. What would you do if you were part of the cricket and mouse nation, and you saw a thousand of them arriving at your shores? Run?

I bet that there will be no fan fiction of this, seeing that it's only an internet thing now. I hope this doesn't cause any.

Retcon:
Light rat armor only has steel upper torso armor and a helmet. The scuba mask part is condensed down to the size of a mouth guard. They also wear goggles.
