So, I've been reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. If anyone has read it, I would like to know if you think Charlie has Asperger's syndrome or not. I think he does, personally.
I haven't read the whole book, so NO spoilers, please! :D

I've been wanting and wanting to read this book for quite a while. There are always so many books to read and so little time. I'm promising myself that I will not buy more books until I read at least 4 so...

I'm glad someone is reading it. I'd love to hear your thoughts once you finish.

I thought that he seemed like an Aspie, but I made that inclination without reading it. So I don't think my opinion really counts.

I loved this book like 6 times when I was in high school. Loved it, one of my favorites.

Read it with a slightly different perspective sometime after I graduated and realized I didn't really care for it anymore.

It's hard to say if Charlie has Asperger's, because he's not a realistic character at all. He deals with pretty much every teen issue and manages to solve every single one without batting an eyelid. Any kid in real life dealing with any one of those things would probably not be able to handle it emotionally or mentally. Goes to parties and does all sorts of drugs, stays out all night, and still manages to get straight A's all throughout school. His small handful of minor character flaws (cries a lot, is shy, shuts down occasionally) seem to only come up when it's convenient to the plot and not during those traumatic times when those flaws would in fact be serious issues.

People used to tell me that Charlie reminded them a lot of me. I don't know what to think of that now.

I just finished re-reading Perks of Being a Wallflower yesterday, the ending made me cry. Anyway, I have wondered if Charlie has Aspergers, since he is honest, shy, emotional, smart, and does what he's told.

I couldn't get into the book at all. I finished it, of course, but I just...couldn't bring myself to care about the characters? I suppose that sounds harsh, but maybe I was too old when I read it? I wanted to like it, though. :?

I read this a couple of days ago and wasn't expecting much. I really enjoyed and was shocked by how dark some of subject matter is. I also agree that the main character has aspergers.

I love it- read it when I was about 15 and it's been one of my favourite books since then. I definitely related to the main character and (although I didn't know about asperger's then), would say that he probably has AS.
