Here's one I found off an awesome songwriting book I've been reading lately--and it happens to be the very first one--off of Songwriting Without Boundaries, a book I currently checked out of the library.

Basically what you do is come up with a "What" scenario...whether, for example, it be water, sadness, rock climbing, soap opera, friendship bracelet, road rage...whatever particular subject can spawn a lot of pure random poetic-ness and spawn constant creative flow. For example take the "what" concept Fire. give yourself five-to-10 minutes, whatever you can handle, and go where your mind takes you, but stick to your intuitive five senses, those including touch, taste, smell, and feeling. Like this:

Smoky bedroom eyes tearing holes through my heart
Dying to hang on to a cyclone of endless oblivion
Collision course with flame and flickering vivid velocity
Taking off with beams of rocket speed into heart racing bliss
Driven to put out sanity with clabbering barriers of vim and vigor
Repetitive drive over random erraticism
Behavior beyond belief
Beyond a boulder, another blunder
Destined to defy and define fate.

Hey, it's a poem in itself, right? ;)
