Freestyle music.
I'm talking about the old 80s music called freestyle in America. It apparently was mostly popular among like, Hispanic crowds in the 80s. It had a few famous popular songs that people still remember today, but overall, it's a pretty forgotten musical style. I kinda got into it, as at thrift stores, I'd see piles of old DJ records with freestyle and old house music (I got 2 vinyl copies of Lil Louis - French Kiss) and I'd just buy the records for the hell of it (sometimes it'd be 3 records for a buck) to see what was on them, and I liked them. Ishkur says freestyle music is like the forgotten precursor to lots of American pop.
