I've been A BIG djent/prog fan for a while. And I'd have to say my all time favorite prog/djent band is probably MESHUGGAH. Post your favorite bands if you'd like.

I like Shiver by Vildajarta. It's too hard to post the link now, so I might post it later.

I love the guitar tone, but find the time signatures a mess often. At least 3 bands are starting to do it well.

I also like instrumental djent. I don't like the ones that only have screamed vocals as much.

I concur. I've been listening to Gru, and to a lesser extent to Animals as Leaders. So far the only djent band with vocals I enjoy is TesseracT-- yes, there's the screaming, but they rely on melodic vocals too, a lot more than any of the others I've heard. I've had One on frequent rotation on my playlist for the past few months, and I'm sold on their sound. I realize they've gone through quite a few vocalist changes since it was released; hopefully it doesn't remove the melodic element from their music, because that's what really drew me to them.

God help me, I've been trying to get into Meshuggah, because I realize how influential they've been on the entire genre, but the vocal delivery is just too harsh for me.

I think Meshuggah is the perfect example of extreme vocals gone too far. Jens always sounds like he is hurting himself with his screams. But he is pretty damn funny in his pictures haha.

Instrumental "djent" is best to me, though I have found 3 good bands. tesseract I only listen to instrumental though, because all the vocalists they've had are waaay too alto for me. I prefer a tenor/baritone voice in music that heavy.

I do think if the sound is done well, however, it sounds incredible. Most of the bands though just copy Meshuggah and their vocal issues and rhythm issues. No rhythm section should be as jerky as Meshuggah's to me.

Read this funny comment about djent this morning.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djent

"Some members of the metal community have criticized the term 'djent', either treating it as a short-lived fad, openly condemning it, or questioning its validity as a genre.

Post-metal band Rosetta said:

Maybe we should start calling doom metal 'DUNNN'."

DUNNN is a very respectable genre.
