Hey,

I've been dying to write a play as a gift for my old high school drama teacher. For the longest time, I struggled to find an idea, and then it hit me like a semi. I realized that my play was going to be about autism. I don't know much about the plot, but I know some details about the main character (a high-functioning autistic), if that's anything. The problem that I have with writing in general is that I am such a rabid perfectionist. I'm afraid that if I just "write the thing", it'll be a mess even with editing. That's a fear that I have about this project. It doesn't help that I don't know what story I'm trying to tell.

Good luck with it. Hopefully your "rabid perfectionism" doesn't get in your way to its completion.

Do you have any ideas so far? I write myself and am great about thinking up topics.Perhaps when an autistic child goes a on a life changing family trip?

I was thinking about having it set in a high school.

Since it's for your drama teacher and you want it set in high school have it about a kid on the spectrum that takes drama and it helps him. Maybe he's assigned some part in a play that he's afraid of trying but his autistic traits make him do the job perfectly and the other kids stop making fun of him so much after that because they see that he can do something after all.

As for the editing, write it and get somebody else to edit it for you and then you look at it and see if it's good enough for final draft.
