Like for example, I hate subcategorizing emo just because a song may have more screaming or more indie qualities or the like than another song. I bet a lot of listeners by now just won't listen to emo cause it's all about screamo...i don't know...or maybe they're so sick of the labeling they just want to listen to bands that are true to the general genre, be it emo or whatever else it is.

Hah...at one point I thought Tool was prog rock. I guess I heard that from around the block but it's "art rock" melded with "metal" according to what many critics of Tool actually say, i dunno.

And eh, if anyone is smart enough to identify genres for what they should be instead of throwing a label out in the air, can someone define emocore for me? I know I could easily google it for myself but heck, why not see if anyone else has the nerve to look it up 8)

1. No one bothers categorizing Emo, it doesn't really have subgenres and they don't really matter.

2. I've always seen Tool labeled as Progressive Metal or Alternative Metal. Sometimes I see them labeled as Math Metal.

3. Emo is short for "Emotional Hardcore". Emo ore refers to early Emo which still resembled Hardcore Punk. Screamo has some similarities in that it's closer to Hardcore than most Emo, but it developed later and the Screamo screaming style is different from the Hardcore Screaming Style.

4. I find Thrash Metal to be incredibly overrated.
