I've seen a lot of posts about music and some about graphic art. I'd be surprised if I were the only sculptor here. I discovered that I could do it about 12 years ago.

I've just started a sculpture of a life-size T-Rex skull (nothing to show yet but half an armature). Biology has been my interest since I was a kid and I am hypervisual, I also just love the objects. I couldn't afford to buy one, so I have to sculpt one for myself. I've done other bio-based stuff. My first sculpture ever was the face of a Borneoan Orangutan. I was able to make a mold, cast four copies and sold one for $350.

As good as I am with the mental measuring involved, I am horrible with materials. Does anyone else feel like their mastery of their medium lags behind their vision?

I love sculpture! I'm only just beginning my adventures into this amazing method of visual art, but I feel like the possibilities are endless. Plasticine and modelling clay are my mediums of choice right now, but I've had some crazy ideas involving jelly.

What kind of jelly do you have in mind. Do you mean something like geletin?

That must be horrible. One of my least favorite things is having a good idea and nothing comes of it. I'm bad with the structural aspects of materials, but I have the best results when I keep things simple. I hope it becomes more satisfying for you.

I don't sculpt, myself, but I would quite like it if maybe some members who do, posted pictures of their work, if you could?

Yes, that's the one! In particular I mean the food product, as I love the texture and think it has many possibilities, especially if I want to make something red and gory looking on the cheap (strawberry jelly). I haven't had the chance to play with it much, though.

I made this today, one of my first forays back into the world of modelling clay. It's hard to get much detail with plasticine but I actually really like the rough look of it! Linked for nudity: http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/q71 ... 10a80a.jpg

This is a bullfrog character I've been messing with for a while. He's made mostly out of toilet paper. The eyes are baby food jars with iris and pupils painted on the inside. I'm using this project to work out some issues with the paper clay and other materials. I've never used any of them before. Almost everything shown is likely to change, but I am encouraged by how it's coming along. (He will eventually have legs.)

I like your work. I've never used that type of clay before. Have you tried anything with the geletin yet? I'm glad to see you're interested in working with odd materials. Would like to see how it turns out. I'm trying to work out a paper clay technique, myself, shown in progress above.

Thank you. I haven't made any serious attempts with jelly/gelatin yet but I'll post them when I do. Also, wow, I had no idea you could do that with toilet paper! I'm impressed.
